Best site for a beginner

A friend of mine is looking to get started doing his own website and asked me for some help. Suprisingly I have none, I have no idea what would be the best way for him to learn. He is a complete beginner with little programming experience. However he likes learning new things.

Is there any good sites out there that would help him, every good resource that I can think of is too advanced since I have been doing this stuff for more than 6 years.
