Looking for an option for expired domains that previously were active sites with content, backlinks, etc..

An example would be: SurreyMD(dot)com

This site as active for 9.5 years, has backlinks, and was reproductive medical office.

I want to find a solution that I can maximize the history. As in, I need to be able to add links, some content, etc.. but still monetize as well. Basically I want the link juice and the potential of covering reg fees.

So what options do I have? Whypark maybe? others?

I built a bunch with adsense, etc.. but that didn't work out due to MFA restrictions, etc..

The example above hasn't been built, it was in process but now I need a new solution.

The highest return is building your own, which you've already done.

Choices beyond that are limited. Parking will work just as well or better than Whypark so either you have to try to build on your pagerank and status or make a determination that the payout from parking and 404 is more valuable.

Wire,

Thanks for response. Yeh, building out is probably my best bet and will preserve the best way to outlink.

Just need to work in some monetization methods besides adsense. Adsense was so easy but they do not like the quality of sites, so that won't work any longer.

Not sure if just the backlinks and small revenue would be worth trying to align affiliate offers, direct advertising, etc...

Might have a to try to go the OpenX way and just try to find general advertising options that match a wide demographic. I need to scale fast though...

Hmmmmmmm

I've found that if it can make money parked, park it and sell it a few months later based on revenue. If it can't make money, rebuild it and use the pagerank/backlink juice to then link over to something that does make money.

You should monetize it using Affiliate Programs. much preferred to Adsense.

Grab the old content out of the Wayback, use it as a basis for some new content. Let it get indexed then add ads.

Stub and Frank,

Thanks, that is basically what we are doing. However, I need something that can either be done quickly or content matched instantly. (That is why I liked adsense so much). I didn't have to try to match affiliate offers, etc.. simplly added a couple pieces of code and I was done.

Now, I am looking to possibly use OpenX, and then structure my domains in groups. Like for travel for instance. Then I will put the travel code on the those domains and can change out affiliate offers, testing, etc.. from the OpenX control panel.

In case you haven't already looked into the specific sources of traffic it can be very helpful to know exactly where your traffic is coming from and in which content the back links are placed. In my experience a free tracker such as statcounter.com has proved to very powerful. When you have an idea about why people come to your site you might be able to find affiliate programs that fit your traffic very well.

Grab the old content out of the Wayback, use it as a basis for some new content. Let it get indexed then add ads.

You might want to make sure you are not breaking any copyrights by using the content. Further you should make sure the same content is not used anywhere else so you avoid being penalized by Google.

@Vegas

OpenX is a great way to do that -- I use it myself for running my own ads on certain sites that are not parked, but only half-assed developed.

@FanCube

Note that I did not say "use the content" I said "use the content as a basis." Over and above whether or not directly copying the content of a defunct website would ever garner any attention or cause problems, that's not actually what I suggested V. do.

FanCube,

yes, install statcounter on just about every one of them.

Frank,

Do you use their hosted solution or host yourself? That is my next decision.

Thanks in advance

I host myself. I don't know what kind of traffic you're contemplating, but my ads get on into the low five figures exposures daily and resource hogging is not too bad. I have it on a VPS through KnownHost.

The best option would be to either buy it out or redirect it to a popular page. Expired domains have a lot of wasted traffic coming to their site, and this traffic could be put to better use for you instead. If you're lucky, you may even find a domain name that's related to your business in a good website with a high page rank.

Nancy,

What do you mean "buy it out"??

A lot of expired domains we purchase are focused on niches that we have sites in. We add backlinks, etc.. to them. The main focus was besides backlinks I would like to monetize these quickly and easily as well.

Redirecting works decent, but from our test it is better to have a lander type site and gives us more outlinking options besides one redirect.
