Right now I get them from Direcnic for $15 each which includes parking or redirection. I'm not looking to buy in bulk- maybe 2 or 3 at a time every so often. I'll probably park or redirect them with possibly developing a few and turning 1 into a personal blog.

So who out there is the cheapest registrar for this? godaddy?

Sorry mate, but best and cheapest won't fit in the same sentence.
Best = good service, easy control etc, with cheap you usually end up with problems.
I use Godaddy, and have had no problems, but some people have.
Take a look at the reviews section on this forum.

Can't stress that enough, if you're paying less than seven bucks for a .com you're usually going to get a crap service.

I use DomainSite for most of my .com ($6.99) and .info ($1.99) domains, and have not have any problems. If someone was offering .coms cheaper, I'd be weary about going for them without finding out more about the service (by asking on NamePros!)

Thanks! Seems like I don't need to pay $15 though. I'll look into those other sites.

And now back to watching my ebay auction for arodsucks.com! ha

read some reviews from others, if you have the cash to prefund and are going to buy a bunch of domains I like enom, if your just going to buy a few here and there then go godaddy or namecheap, just my opinion as I have never had a problem with these 3 companies with years of use, read up and make your selection, use this site for some coupons.

I'm not saying they're the best, I mean pretty much everyone on NP dislikes them but...

1&1 (www.1and1.com ) has .coms and most others for $5.99, they have free and very easy forwarding and parking integrated with Sedo.

If you purchase hosting for $2.24 a month, they have a great little make-a-blog program called 1&1 Blog. Overall, if you're pretty independent and don't rely on excelent customer service, 1&1 is fine and cheap.

My registrar of choice. :hehe: :hehe: :hehe: :hehe:

RegisterFly might be among the cheapest but they are also among the worst... the old adage: You get what you pay for.

And arodsucks.com would be so fun to own :D

I have used godaddy and I found them too confusing. They are continuously trying to throw in extra services as you register a name and the controls are not easy. For instance you might end up setting automatical renewal without even being aware of it. When I heard they are charging people for parking (trying to fool newbies) my dislike grow stronger.

I started using namecheap and I'm very happy with them. I wanted to know how I could push a domain to another namecheap account and I was very happy to see they had demonstrated this with a video!

edit:

In another thread I have just read that you could cancel a registration with a few days.

I just remembered my first name registration at namecheap. I made a typo and registered a name that was a typo of what I actually wanted to register. I contacted them immediately and asked them to cancel it. They emailed me back and said "Unfortunately once a domain is registered we cannot reverse it as we pay a non refundable fee ourselves to the central registry. This is stated in our registration agreement".

I just lost $17.76 for nothing. I didn't know other registrars were able to cancel it within 4 or 5 days. It was the same day I registered and they didn't cancel it. So I don't suggest namecheap anymore.

Moniker is widely regarded as the safest registrar with the best customer service in the world. They have special pricings for Namepros members, a .com is $6.95 and .net only $5.49. Contact them and let them know you're a NP member and they'll set up everything for you.

Also another registrar I like is Dynadot, they have very, very clean website/user interface and don't throw those endless marketing BS at you. Their pricing is not the cheapest but very clear and honest, for .com, .net, .org and many other extensions the price is $7.99, they seldom do any promos.

Directi resellers such as whiz.in have very low prices on most ext too. Directi websites are a bit hard to get around at first but you'll get used to them after you spend some time there. whiz.in has very good customer service provided
by a NP member "tk", he's always responsive and ready to help with any problems.

There's a Registar Review section here at NP:
http://www.namepros.com/registerindex.php

That may give you some idea and I think reading as much as you can on forums and doing some research here before you're going to try a new registrar will defnitely help you a lot. Plus, people here are always happy to help when you have problems so just ask and you'll feel the love from NP'ers :)

edit: just read your post about cancelling your reg, I know moniker provides this service for .com, .net and .org names, but you need to do so within 4 days and there's a small fee ($1 I think) for each reg you cancelled. Sounds nice huh? :tu:

I also use whiz.in, and have found the prices very (very) good.
Not needed to test the customer service yet though...

I second Moniker.com, i even believe the owner is a domainer himself :) The other registrar i use is Enom, i bought a 6.95 account a couple of months ago. I am currently consolidating al my domains at those 2. I personally would stay away from GoDaddy, their front line support is horrible and they enforce ridicous policies regarding internal domain transfers and contact updates.
