Hi,
I just bought this domain: BEERSTORE.DE. All other extensions are taken, and germans are famous for beer... do you think this could be a good catch?

For a start, Beer in German is Bier and Store in German is Geschaeft or Kaufhaus, so to be honest, I don't really think that it's suited to the German market at all.

Hi Zeeble, words are obviously in english, but I've seen MANY domain sales for names in english language in .de market.
Looking at domain auctions at sedo I can see sportsbook.de being bidded by 4 persons for 7900 EUR, and many other names with english keywords being bidded as well.
English is an *internationalized* language, even in Italy we have many stores with english name, so I wouldn't say it's not suited for German market at all, also as we are talking about beer.

it can be useful for the german market as just about everyone speaks English in Germany, Austria, etc.
However, beer and other alcoholic beverages are sold in regular grocery stores, there are practically no specialized liqueur stores, which makes me wonder if that is the route you want to go with this DN. (materials to brew beer at home?)

i'd value it in the mid $xx

reasons: see above and you'd have to do some positioning, 'cause the first instinct for a german speaking user would be to go for a german worded DN, you'd have to increase the awareness that your DN is actually existing.

I agree with you there.

But I am actually a native German speaker, and there is a differencfe (in my opinion) between a domain like sportsbook.de and yours. For example, if you say "Beer" to a German peron it is pronounced pretty much the same but spelled differently.

BEERSTORE sounds quite American to me so the .de TLD looks odd but maybe it's just me.
I doubt the name would appeal to German end users but it's best to ask the native speakers here ;)
IMO the name would fit better for beer import/export business or for a retailer/importer of foreign beers (I guess the Germans drink something else than German beer).

Hey gattoplano,

I am a german and i sort of like it.
As Zeeble stated, it is pronounced the same but spelled differently, but i don't see a big problem there.

You just have to market it the right way.

I would setup a nice little online store with osommerce/zend cart or anything you desire, and make some categories with exotic beer varietes, hard to become.

Just be creative (maybe you search someone living in germany to help you cause it's quite a challenge as no german with over 3000+ different Beers in Germany )... :)

Cheers

Frank

Thank you Frank :)
In effects, you all are right. A Beer Store best fits for an American store, but beer is very important in Germany.
Here in Italy there are many stores called "cell store" or "souvenir store" even if those are stranger words :) and even if it's spelled differently, I think it's easy to remember for anyone knowing english.
Liquid: I'll consider it :) unfortunately to build up a store requires lots of time... If you would like to do it, I could borrow you the domain!
