Curious about your thoughts...

estibot is utter bullshit, doesn't matter how often it gets promoted by well-known people. someone on the forum put it well recently: "Estibot is the equivalent of horoscopes."

My appraisal would probably be worth as much estibot's, so I'll just say I don't think it's likely to sell for much, if it sells at all. But there are some sales on namebio of domains ending in -ad so who knows.

Haha... nice

My horoscope today says "If you ask those around you to help with your activities, they most likely won't understand your needs."

Maybe no one understands....

I'm getting tired of seeing ridiculously stupid sales on namebio, so I'm not sure I'll refer to it anymore.

But something I do usually check is what similar domains are registered and how many are being used
These are in use
http://www.banner-advertising.com/
http://www.banner-ad-blog.com/
http://www.banner-ad-design.com/
http://www.banner-ad-designers.com/
http://www.banner-adz.com/

The results were much better than I was expecting
And that's just domains using the exact string "banner-ad"
Doesn't guarantee you'll be able to sell it, but it feels more likely after seeing that
edit: banner-ads.com would sound much better.. but maybe they wouldn't mind

Considering the amount of spam people probably receive daily from domainers trying to sell crap, especially crap with hyphens, I would tread carefully and price reasonably :xf.grin: edit: but you don't have to send emails, of course
A random thought I had today was to set up a landing page with a notice that says "Were you looking for one of these" and then a link / picture "ad" for each potential lead arranged in a list or grid.. Then somehow get the leads to visit the landing page and see all their "competitors" or similarly-named businesses who could take the domain. Probably not a great idea..what do you think

Cool. Thanks for the list!

That's an interesting idea. It would certainly help people feel the "competition" aspect but I'm not too sure how you'd get your leads to go there without sending them an email. And I'm not sure why a lead would click on your link in an email. There'd have to be some other way to get them to see that landing page. But I don't know how... What were you thinking?

You want the plural version - 'banner-ads'.

The singular version I don't see much working well. Maybe if it didn't have the hyphen and since it is dot com it could get high xx, but since it has the hyphen.. hard sell.

But I see this lucking out somewhere down the line and getting 30-60. And then there is always the dupe that might pay 90-120. But you don't want to base your game on dupes. That's just a shitty way of doing things. Put your BIN at 35 and be glad to get the $26.50 profit.

No problem. I should have said .. you can use namedroppers.com or zfbot.com (that's z f b o t .com if namepros decides to mess it up) to check that.. unless you knew already.
But just because people are using similar domains doesn't mean it will sell..it's nice to check though. I mean.. if someone wants to upgrade their domain, will they upgrade it to one with a hyphen? And yea, banner *ads* is better

Yeah.
I guess for some names, end users type it in out of curiosity or because they want it.. but not all..and even then, if they already want it, they probably don't need to see that page..
so.. I'll think about it more :P

Yeah I use zfbot sometimes. It seems their UI changed since the last time I used it, but I've used it before.

But it's always good when someone does your work for you ;)

When you've worked out the kinks on that, let me know. I'm still too new to have identified the best method for selling my names, so I'm open to trying anything.
