Just once. Just once I would like to try and buy a domain without the whole 'trying to guess how much I'll really pay' routine. Just once I would like to try and make a purchase without feeling like I am talking to a used car salesman. When you decline to name a price, then ask me what the max is that I am able to pay for the domain, I will tell you. That number is not an opening gambit, it is actually, the maximum number I am able to pay. You don't get to go higher; you declined to tell me what you wanted for it in the first place. It's that number, or let's just call it a no sale.

-sigh-

Maybe you should emphasize it more that this is your one and only bid ?

Oh, I think I did. The fellow did not ask me, 'what are you offering for the domain?' He asked what is the maximum amount I am willing to pay. Sorry I'm whining. Just thought it would make a nice birthday present for my wife.

Eh, maybe the domain is worth more than I offered, that's fine.

didn't sound like whinning to me! Sounds like you're a straight shooter when it comes to negotiating! Nice idea for a birthday gift!

Too many so called domainers are greedy suckers, pure and simple.
Say you want so much, and these domainers then want more.
Like someone says I will only pay 100 bucks for this domain.
The domainer then wants much more, or figures that the domain he is holding is worth so much more than 100 bucks.
Avoid those who are greedy.

Love this. Last time I checked when i say I can pay this much for something I mean that much and that's it. I don't like hidden extras either.

One thing that I’ve realized over the years is most domainers over value their domains and seem to think that they can get squeeze you for every penny possible.

Now when it comes to selling a domain to an end user I do realize that you need to be a bit more persistent but one thing these domainers needs to realize is when you’re selling to another reseller we usually know what it’s worth and we know what were willing to spend BEFORE we contact you. Trying to squeeze us for more money doesn’t work since there are just so many other domains that are similar on the marketplace.

For example, not too long ago I tried to get a domain on Sedo that had an Estibot value of 10K but the guy had it up for “make an offer”. I told him I’ll give him $500 for it as there wasn’t really much Google type ins for its keyword and I was looking to flip it the week after.

He countered with an outrageous price of 50K!

Obviously at this point I realized we were way too far apart and a deal simply couldn’t be made so I made it clear to him that the most I would be willing to pay was 1K. He actually got offended and said that the lowest he was willing to go was 25K and that he was doing me a favor by pricing it at 50% less than what he was originally giving me.

A lot of domainers aren’t just greedy – there delusional. They actually think that one day someone is going to throw that kind of money at them for their domains.

Sometimes I just don’t know if it’s funny or just sad…
