I think this was asked already on DNF but wanted to pose it here.

Assuming equal pricing, which would you choose: A bad LLL.com (low quality letters, i.e. XVZ.com) or a good quality LLL.net? Which will increase more over time? Which one can you more easily flip?

I would prefer a good .NET over a bad .COM. .NET are pretty good with pricing, and if you can get something like "BEO.NET" compared to "XZV.COM" the .NET is better, IMO.

you'll forgive me if i ask a lot of n00b questions here, but i've been reading a lot of Frank Schilling, who's obsession with .COMs is probably well known here. how do you think that carries over into LLL's that have no specific meaning?

I am not sure on that, I would probably preffer the .com as their are only a rare few of them and although it is may be bad it could have its uses, it really depends on the .net in question though as their prices are rising

"Assuming equal pricing" makes it easy: A Good LLL.net. IMO, junk LLL .com names are ugly and not brandable or really developable on, so since a good LLL.net should have a whole lot of acronym possibilities, it has a better chance of finding an end-user.

Figuring out which LLL.net would be good enough to be $3,500+ on the other hand would be the difficult part.

Good Acronym LLL.net < Bad LLL.com

Dict word LLL.net >= Bad LLL.com

Good lll.net anytime. The chance of finding an end user is 20 times bigger for a good lll.net than for a bad (xzy) lll.com. Also a good lll.net is likely to rise more in value than a bad lll.com imo.

Agreed. I think just a solid letter .net would be difficult to brand, as any reputable company would prefer hands down the com. However, the word .net would be substancially easier to pick then a LLL.com

Please be generous to give your bad LLL.com, please :p

I want all bad LLL.com. To me all bad LLL.coms are :gn:

Please make no mistakes: bad LLL.com is the higher level than Good LLL.net, generally.

This should not be a question to ask. Everyone knows .Com is better than .Net, generally.

:hehe:

Read the post. "Assuming equal pricing". In other words, a good enough LLL.net to be worth the minimum wholesale of LLL.com. :)

I think the important thing to recognise here is that the domains are worth the same amount.

Bad LLL.com will have a low range in selling price:* $3000 - $7000+
Good LLL.net will have a higher range in selling price:* $1200 - $50000+

To a domain trader who knows how to find endusers and balance their budget, the LLL.net is the better option as there is more profit to be made. There are more endusers who will pay the maximum.

To a novice domainer who is having difficulties balancing their budget, the LLL.com is the better option. A rushed sale due to money needs with the LLL.net will be harder work to get the $3500 the domain is worth.

To me, I don't look for endusers and so I would prefer the LLL.com if I wanted to use for reselling purposes and the LLL.net for developement purposes.

Personally, I think that the decision depends on the person. You would probably find a lot more people who will take the LLL.com but in the right hands the LLL.net has more potential.

*My personal estimates on what I would expect that a domain to sell for. The LLL.com has a larger market with a higher minimum sale price and is hard work to get more than 100% profit with. Good LLL.net has a smaller market with a lower minimum price but with a lot more endusers who will pay more than 500% profit on a sale.
