Backpack.info ... I just purchased this name ... any ideas on value?

I am curious to see if I got a bargain ...

I also own Backpackers.info which I am slowly developing into a backpacking forum.

Nice single-word keyword, memorable...
High $XXX wholesale, anything above $2000 to end-user is quite reasonable in my opinion... Great for development, finding a buyer for .info can be hard...

Try marketing to the camping crowd. That's your best bet. Or a smaller scale, but
niche market, market to the upcoming and popular backpack music crowd. You're sure to get a buzz with some marketing since no "backpack" domain has catered to this market yet.

Good luck. $XXX low, XXXXhigh with proper marketing.

So, are you going to let us know how much you did pay for it? At least a price range?
Anyway, I think this kind of names will continue to increase in value. It has a similar ring to camping.info which sold for xx,xxx

I am actually planning on pointing it to my new backpacking forum www.backpackers.info
Nice pick up. I would, however, suggest creating more of an ecomm site with a forum included. The intuitive nature of the extension would allow you to capitalize on review, recommendations, etc... linked up with a data feed from one of the outdoor merchants for the products. Think epinions for backpacks. Forums are no a money maker, and so many out there it's hard to diferentiate yourself. If you do proceed with the forum only, I would recommend a different skin - more natural and rustic colors. Again, nice pick up, definately worth a little extra effort and money to make it a great site. Best of luck :gn:

Great base for a site similar to that you are building. Promoting the forum can be hard, but this is quite a focussed group of users, so try finding someone who's backpacking, give them some sheets of stickers and get them to stick away on the backpack trail!!

I'm sure a bit of cash would help a backpacker accept your request!

You paid a fair price. You could resell for high xxx I think. You should spend a couple of hundred dollars and setup a little store, find a dropshipper and see what kind of action you get.

I'm sure you are aware of thorntree.lonelyplanet.com there are now 327,815 members on the forum.

You may be able to pick up some interesting ideas there.

$500 - Sounds like a fair deal and more good news for .info

A fair price, I think you'll get high XXX developed, maybe even X,XXX. Selling as a pair to an end-user you'd most likely get mid to high X,XXX. I know you are thinking backpacking as in hiking but backpacks themselves are still a popular item.

Although the term 'Backpack/er' is related to hiking, the term Backpack has become more associated with sudents/young people travelling the world on a low budget, and from what I have seen they do very little hiking, far more travelling by plane, bus and train and hanging out in cheap resorts. But they all use Backpacks as it is the easy way to carry their belongings.

I like it too.... But it looks like BackPacking.com is reg'd and parked somewhere.

If I were a buyer I think I would buy the .com over the .info. Less and less each year but... alot of consumers when looking at an advertisment for a website will totally blow off the ext and just remember the name assuming it's a .com --- Sounds kinda silly but I actually do e-mail surveys to help me buy my DNs and this is what I've found out.

Good name still. Mid XXX maybe low XXXX after the development.
