Hey guys,

If there is a domain dropping from Name.com what happens to that name should it drop?

Does Name.com's Domain Nabber Tool grab it before Snap, Namejet, Pool or does Name.com have a Pre-Release agreement with one of these services?

Thanks,

Skinny

What is the expiry date? Those questions would be so much easier if you could only add the expiry date.

If it s pending delete, the registrar doesn't have any priority. You always need to backorder any pending delete domain at snapnames regardless of the registrar.

That domain will be on snapnames pre-release auction between day 15-35 after expiry and if it is not sold,
it will be on name.com pre-release auction between day 36-45 and if it is not sold,
it will drop on day 75 and need to be caught by a dropcatcher.

Many domainers only understand the last step (which is pending delete). The correct question is not, "Does the registrar have priority over pending delete dropcathing?" No, it doesn't. That's the wrong question. The correct question is, "Where does the registrar auction its domain during pre-release while it is still under their control and before it even reaches the dropping stage?".

When a domain expires the registrar has full control over the domain for 45 days and it will do whatever it pleases. Most of the time they will auction it. They don't need to catch it. It is already in their control. This is called pre-release. Pre release domains are not dropping. They will maintain their creation date.

In your question you said "dropping". If it is indeed dropping as you said, the domain has already passed two pre-release auctions and nobody bough it and you are very late, or you meant "expiring" which is different than dropping because expiring domains don't drop and they don't need to be caught.

I think one thing that confuses many domainers is the time difference between pre-release and pending delete. These don't happen at the same time. Pre-release auctions will always happen before day 45 and the domain will always drop around day 72. It is not like some dropping domains are pushed to pre-release. The same domains will go through two auctions: pre-release and pending delete. For instance a name.com domain will appear on snapnames pre-release and after a month it will appear on snapnames pending delete. You need to get it during the first auction.

sdsinc,
name.com domains go to snapnames pre-release first and only if they are not sold they go to name.com and appear on that page you have linked. All the domains that you see on that page were on snapnames a few days ago.

Here are some real life examples:
freelancepub.com
hostaddicts.com
sixthyear.com

These are name.com domains at snapnames pre-release. For instance the last one sixthyear.com expired on 22 Jan 2011. It is listed at snapnames as pre release right now until 26 February. This is 35 days after expiry. So during the remaining 10 days name.com will put that domain through a second pre-release auction on their own site.
