I wanted to "backorder" a domain which will expire in a lot of time.

I was wondering where is the cheapest place to do so?

i think, best is look at the current registrar and place the backorder with the current registrar or the one who has the link with the current registrar.

Its not about "cheap" its about do you want to get the domain name? Bottom line is that in all likely hood, its going to go 1 of 4 places. Snap, Pool, Club Drop, or TDNAM - this will in part depend on the registrar.

If its a desireable name, you will most likely have to pay at auction, and potentially big dollars. I would check which registrar it is currently at and then re-ask your question, because several different senarios could occur.

doenst expired until 2009 - and is registered at Moniker.

Current market value for an LLL.net seems to be approaching the 1k mark. Im not sure if it goes to Moniker's Marketplace or if it will be dropped and released to Snap or Pool. But my guess is, when this does drop, it will go to auction and it will cost over 1,000. No way to know what Market Value will be 2 years from now.

If you want this domain name, the best course of action would be to contact the owner and offer to buy it.

Rarity. Clearly your not aware of the CCC market. At snapnames if a LLL.net were to become available at auction, thats what it would go for. Here are some recent LLL.net sales:

Well, if it expires, its about a 99.9% certainty it will be grabbed by a drop service that will send it to auction. You have no chance to make a fresh registration on this domain name. And I agree - I dont see this domain name dropping in 2 years, when Im willing to bet it'll be worth 2-3x whats it worth today, atleast.
