Hi,
Is this .net considered one word?
And do you think anyone appreciates the searches that "background" gets on the internet?

I would say that this domain is most definitely a one word domain. There are plenty of searches. It is worth some money for the right player.

I like it, background checks and background images....I would find and end user in background checks for the most $$$$

I like it too. I am just not sure about the .net market. On the one hand, obviously having a one-word is good, on the other hand, the .nets have really not been doing well. Plus, while background is a good word, this is one of those words that does get used with another word (background checks, background images, etc...). But again, the bigger issue is the .net. I guess it all depends on the price you paid for it. At wholesale, I cannot imagine you would get much. To an end-user (if you can find one), more. I hope this helps.

I agree, backgroundchecks would be better but I think to the right buyer u could fetch high xxx to low xxxx...being a .net

Like the name and envision quite a variety of potential fields of end-user use.

My first thought is the name might be a great redirect / point URL for an already established website with a solid well established primary domain name.

Also you might locate recent / start-up " background " related firms and this might be a very tempting primary URL or again, a great secondary name.

Agree with the posters who believe the name might be valued as a $$$$ name.

Nice domain!

thanks, I've been asked a lot how much I want for it, but they never get back to me... ? They must think I'm giving it away.. (I have both background and backgounds dot net) I had hoped it would be a good combo.

To be honest, I am not so sure about backgrounds.net. Its alright, and I guess is good that you have both, but this is the type of name that someone will most likely only want one of them. With regards to the price, I guess it depends on what you are asking. Do you mind saying what your quote price is to the companies? I assume you are talking end user price and not wholesale, but since its a .net, you may have to wait a long time to get a good number.

I quoted 42k for one, and was offered 36k from a "buy domains" agent for the singular version. I never heard from him again when I said yes. Obviously he was price fishing.
Subsequently I was offered 20k (total) for both names. The broker was (is) an investor and I'm guessing he had a buyer offering more. I said no. Now I'm somewhat confused.

Again, it all depends on what you paid for them, but I think a 20k offer for both is pretty good (if you are making money on the deal). I think in the very long term, these domains are worth more. However, again, the .net market is very bad, and it will take a while to get quite high offers. They are your domains, but I would see if you could at least meet a bit higher on the two .nets (say 25k), if you believe the broker is serious. Yes, they will make money as well. But they have a lead that you don't. And if you are making money, take the sale and invest the profits in a good .com.

I paid $6.95 for all of my generics in '96-98'. Never bought more than two or three since. I probably should've sold the dot nets before the gTLD's came out.
