Automatic domain apprisals discussion

Hi,

This thread is grown from our fabulous-related discussion with DomainBlasters aka Richie (www.namepros.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=27030).

I think that it is interesting to compare some domain valuating tools. I have some experience with:

www.swiftappraisal.com - interesting tool - you can have any results you want - the tool believes in what you entered

the fabulous tool is very nice - for some degree of cource - see sample results in attached gif

www.namepros.com/dna/ - I need to play around to say something about it

But this is ruther short list.

Anybody know some other tools? After we collect the list, we compare tools against each other.

Is this domain name resolving yet? I would think a prime End user "lead", IMHO. I mean isn't your domain name worth 5 - 10%+/- of the base acquisition domain (one would think)?

Our domain name value calculator is due for a bit of an update. Its definately a challenge to come up with a value automatically for a name.

I like fabulous' numbers. Do you know what factors they use to get them?

Some hints on VALUATION METHODOLOGY

Hi Ron,

To tell you the truth, its really hard to create valuation algorithm, but after some automatic valuations one should plug in own brain and complete valuation "manually". And I guess that the price depends mostly on the abilities of seller to negotioate the deal and current market situation in general.

By next week I might have some report from fabulous staff. I'll try to got some material to this thread.

For a moment read some quotations from fabulous faq:

"How do I value a domain?

To get a valuation on a domain or a set of domains, use the Value Domains Tool to enter each domain one per line in the form field provided.

NOTE: You must include the domain suffix (.com, .net, or .org) for a valid valuation to take place."

"How accurate is the evaluation price on a domain?
Domain Valuations are based on a complex formula that looks at many factors before calculating a valuation price. These factors include the number of words in the domain, hyphens, plural words, what price is set for words in the domain with pay-per-click search engines and whether the domain is already registered.

As some of these factors fluctuate on a regular basis, the Domain Valuation is only meant to act as a guide to aid you in your domain research and as such should not be taken as a true literal value for the domain."

"Can I evaluate domains that I don't own?
Any domain name (existing or non-existing) can be valued regardless of who the owner of the domain is."

AND one interesting fact: when you put the list of domain for sale through the Fabulous.com catalogue of available domainsname, they valuate all TLDs - not only com, net, org. See some example in attached screenshot. The input from user is only name and category. So, valuations not suffer from ones input as much as on swiftappraisal.com - thats the main difference - swiftappraisal.com gives you the number you want to - it's not appropriate. Again, I guess that on fabulous they run your name against some huge database of manually-apprised domains and use some weght numbers for specific words, categories and who know what else? I ask my manager from fabulous to share some specs

Again, anybody know some other domain valuation tools?

I got a quick note from fabulous team regarding their automated valuation system recently.

"Hi Valery,

Thanks for your email and kind words about our domain valuation tool. It is getting quite old now actually and we have been meaning to revisit the tool and fine tune it a little.

The technology behind the valuation model is based on some in house metrics, and is not something that we want to fully disclose just yet..."

And also they are hoping to contribute more at namepros soon.

Well, I know that automated appraisals is not ideal, but than again, people are often even more subjective in their opinions. And the reason for this thread is to collect some representative quantity of automated domain appraisal tools and valuation methodologies too, along with your own experience with them. And than we can state the weakness and strength of automatic valuation.

Hope you got the idea and awaiting for contributions and experience with some tools also. :tu:
