This is a very nice script to be able to focus on a specific real estate related niche in a speciifc region of the world and I am sure many of you already know how much easier it is to rank well for keywords that are geo-targeted rather than broad terms such as real estate and mortgages which have huge competition.

The admin demo above will give you a good idea of what changes can be made to the script and it comes with a very nice template system that utilizes tokens to help create unique sites quickly and easily. Real Estate Classifieds Script Review

I installed this script on a domain I have had parked for a long time, Twin-Cities-Homes.com.

Install
I unzipped the real estate site script using Winzip and made sure that it created the folders that I should have. The readme file was pretty simple, the main thing was to set a number of file permissions to 777 after you upload the files. Then you go to the admin folder and set up the configuration.

Configure
Cool! I wish every script was like this...! After you log in as admin, you get to configure almost EVERYTHING right from the admin screens. (See attached image.) I won't show a screen shot of everything, but you can see from the one I have attached that you can edit the template, CSS, links, and everything else. Sure you can just edit the files and then FTP them to the site, but this makes it simple. Just remember to FTP your edited files on the site down to your computer so you have a current backup.

Oodle ID needed
I registered at Oodle and got my id and made a few changes and the site didn't work! It takes a while for your ID to become active, and then the property listings will show up. Same thing for AdSense and I had to create a channel for AdSense so I can track how this site is doing.

Changing the look
I also modified the template and CSS a little. I tried to put the 728 block of ads at the very top of the page, but it didn't seem to work. I moved it down before the content and while it worked, it messed up the layout. I took a chance and edited the CSS, by expanding the content area and the body by about 118 and it worked! It makes the site a little wide, but not too bad.

I also don't like sites that have headers that are too big like I think this one is. Later I may replace the image and try to make it smaller or maybe put the search options in the header if I can. I think that would justify using that much space. You may notice some other flaws in the design, but that may be from my messing around with the settings.

Problems and Concerns with this script
I have a couple of concerns. Since this script uses data from another site, it could stop working at some point in the future. But the cost is low enough that even if that happens I would not be too upset if the seller is not able to make changes, but I would like to get a year out of this at least before I have to change to something else. The other concern is that leaving site files and folders with security settings of 777 is a really bad idea. So I changed them to I think 644 and it messed up the site. By testing the files I found which ones that was and had to make them different so the site would work ok. If I have to change site settings I will have to change the security. For this part it would be better to have a config.php like most sites do, or maybe just old folder that needs security changed, but it's not a huge problem.

Optimization
The script has some optimization both with meta tags and htaccess for the URLs. Since I have access to the code, I can change the page optimization somewhat and I will look into that later. It's ok now, but I do a lot of search engine optimization / SEO and would like it more as I do sites.

Summary: Recommended!
I like that the site content loads quickly, which can be a problem for some scripts like this. This script is easy to set up and configure, provide all the options to customize it that I need so far, and is fairly inexpensive.

No problem jaydub, everyone has different likes and dislikes when it comes to aesthetics, that is also why we offer some additional free templates at our site, or if anyone is interested we can do custom templates to your specifications for $75 each or $50 each for orders that are 2 or more.

Real Estate Classifieds Script Review - Update

[Review Update:

I have not really done much to promote our copy of this script (see review above somewhere) but I was pleased to see we are getting some increased traffic and that the traffic is coming in for good search queries. The first stats are traffic numbers and the second shows the search queries for this month so far. I don't have income yet, but I think it's still low. The stats are encouraging me to spend a little time on this puppy and see what it can really do. ]

Sounds good. With some backlinks and a little more promo you should start to see that traffic increase even further.
