Is there any difference between Authoring software and Web Development software?
Doing a report for college ATM and thought that they were the same thing.

Hey,

erm well when i think of authoring software what comes to my mind is Dreamweaver, Adobe photoshop etc because they actually write the site. They could also be classed as web dev software.

But web dev software could also include things like, page rank optimizers and html tidiers etc.

Thanks for the replies.
Anyone else?
Would you class Macromedia Director as an authoring package or web dev?

In my day, authoring would be more relative to CD type thingys - Director was the software we used for this. Authorware was another example. Web dev would be creating websites using Dreamweaver et al.

Yeah they're actually different things! Authoring software is more for creating content, like courses or presentations, think PowerPoint or Adobe Captivate. You don't really need to know how to code. Web development software is what developers use to actually build websites, VS Code, WebStorm, that kind of thing, where you're writing HTML, CSS, JavaScript etc. They can overlap a bit when you publish authoring content online, but they're built for pretty different purposes. Hope that helps with your report!
