Good on ya mates,

When registering a domain with Australia in mind should one register .com or that awkward (imho sorry) "commonwealth" .com.au TDL. (well at least is better than the "motherlands" .co.uk, again in my opinion) I am pissing off my mates here left and right and I am not even half way with mi questions :)

Is it more powerful to own the .com version than the .com.au version? I would think so...? Is that .com.au widely used..? Do Aussie websites generally strive to own both..?

Sorry a few Q's in one thread but any insigth on this down under question would be vegemite.

Basically to be able to register a .com.au you will need an ABN (Australian Business Number) or ACN (Australian Company Number). There are a few other entities that can register, e.g. TM holders etc. You might find this document useful:

How many have a .com and .com.au? The "How long is a piece of string?" question springs to mind. As a generality a lot of the bigger enterprises (try to) have both. At the smaller end I would say very few.
