Per the rules any sale is supposed to include the expiration date.

Recently I have won two auctions only to find out after the fact that they were days from being expired. Why is this rule not enforced in all selling categories? This is a common shady practice here. Selling expired domains? Make that known upfront.

6.1.6. Each domain name in a sales listing must include its expiration date if it is expiring within 3 months, its registrar, its renewal price if the cost exceeds $15 at its current registrar, and payment options.
  • The expiration date of a domain expiring within 3 months may be omitted if the seller agrees to cover its 1 year renewal cost for the buyer. Buyers must request this option within 7 days after an agreement is reached.
  • The renewal price of a domain that is less than or equal to $15 at its current registrar may be omitted. Tip: You may also want to specify the price to transfer/renew the domain name at a different registrar, especially if it's less expensive than renewing at its current registrar.

Please read the full rule:
  • The expiration date of a domain expiring within 3 months may be omitted if the seller agrees to cover its 1 year renewal cost for the buyer. Buyers must request this option within 7 days after an agreement is reached.
That means that if you have made a deal for a domain expiring within 3 months and the seller opted to omit the expiry date, then the seller must pay the renewal fee on that domain per your request within 7 days (if you don't request it within that time frame, then they don't have to), otherwise the deal is void.

The rule is self-sufficient and covers both scenarios.

Hope that helps,
