.AT residency required?

I am seeing conflicting information about the .AT ccTLD

Is residency (local presence) required or not?

I see a bunch of .AT sites which I seriously doubt have residency.

The faq at nic.at is fairly useless to figure this out.

Hi there aww, I have been looking around to find some solutions to your question but it seems that I have no luck. The FAQ isn't really what it is meant to be.

I checked Sharpy.at @ Safenames and this is what came up:

sharpy.at Austria nr Available $55.00

nr means: No Restriction (NR)
No restriction usually means that a foreign company or person can register any and as many domain names as they require.

Note: Safenames always have a $150 admin fee on top of reg fee

Its no wonder most ccTLDs aren't popular! Who is going to pay $55 + $150 to register a domain name?!?!?

Anthony, "blonde.at" and "illegally.at" just sold for 580 and 777 euros last week at Sedo. Does that answer your question?

I dug around in the nic.at faq and found this: "The price of a domain including the first annual fee is EUR 72.00; each ensuing service period costs EUR 36.00. "

Okay, but those are obviously exceptions. The .at extension isn't so easy to remember.

@all: There are no restrictions at our .at Domain names. So everybody can register it! Hope that helps so late!

@Anthony: You are not right. Many of our domain names are highly sold.
