I preregistered a few dot Asia names today. I guess now I sit back and pray I get a few. The register contact should have an Asian address with yours also. Godaddy informed me that many people are preregistering domains without an Asian contact. I would not risk that. If anyone needs an Asian contact they can use my driver in Cambodia. PM me for the information on him. It is legal this way. These are the domains I have preregistered. Has anyone else preregistered any domains? The 100.00 no refund charge to preregister Asian domains ended over at Godaddy. Just 39.00 each for 2 years and fees refunded if you don't get the name. I see some other registers are offering a no money back refund if you don't get your domains. I got 10% off from a coupon I got over at DNCoupons.
It took 2 hours on the phone with Godaddy to preregister these names. It must be done via the phone.

I might have been a fool to try for the best. I am now thinking I should have tried for less popular domains. Oh well, they will refund all monies back if I lose the auction which ends about 45 days later in mid March.
Updated: I got another answer from Godaddy. There is no limit to the amount of people that preregister a domain name at their site or any other register site. Now I really think I should have went after less in demand domains.

So at Godaddy.com you can pay $39 and if you dont get the name you get the money back?

You might be right. Dunno. Perhaps Godaddy was telling me names already preregister were just the TM domains and the others anyone can try for and go to auction. I had a customer low service guy that really didn't know much today at GD.

I haven't followed .asia but I've heard that if more than one party preregisters for a name, it will go to auction and be assigned to the highest bidder (by the registry).

Godaddy says that stage is over and there will be no auctions now. I dunno if they are right or not as I also read what you said. Perhaps somebody can enlighten us? I will call Godaddy and see again.

Just called Godaddy. Domains do go to auction if others preregister them too. Damn, I just gave a 1000.00 intrest free loan to Godaddy as I can't bid on those premium domains against the big boys because they have deeper pockets. I had a rep that didn't know crap misinformed me at Godaddy, bless his heart. I should have preregistered 3 letter domains with less interest I think now. Oh well, live and learn. Let me think out loud. I would have to bid on 26 premium domains at one time that I applied for thus narrowing my budget to a pulpers budget in my bidding if I had to pay for several at once that I won. I think zeroing in on one would be the way to nail it as opposed to 26 in auction at once.

I now agree with you.

Every .asia that has more than 1 applicant goes to auction.

Must you be in involved in the auction or do you have a choice?

Well, that depends on whether you want the domain. I guess nobody puts a gun to your head, but you have to participate if you wish to get the domain.

During the Landrush phase anyone around the world can apply for any available .Asia domain, representing a golden opportunity for individuals looking to invest in the most prestigious and potentially profitable cyber real estate in Asia. Domain names receiving more than one application during the Landrush period will be auctioned between the applicants in an equitable process that would encourage the adoption of the .Asia domain. Popular โ€œkeywordโ€ domains, such as names consisting of common terms are expected to generate the most intense bidding. (Source)
