I didn't realise that you could only register .asia if you were a resident of certain countries, or am I confusing something? From GoDaddy:

* NOTE: All .ASIA registrations must include at least one contact who resides in one of the .ASIA countries.*

* Afghanistan, Antarctica, Armenia, Australia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, China, Christmas Island, Cocos (Keeling) Islands, Cook Islands, Cyprus, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Georgia, Heard and McDonald Islands, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Iran, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kiribati, Korea, Democratic People's Republic of, Korea, Republic of, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Lebanon, Macau, Malaysia, Maldives, Marshall Islands, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nauru, Nepal, New Zealand, Niue, Norfolk Island, Oman, Pakistan, Palau, Palestinian Territories, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, Syria, Taiwan, Tajikistan, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Tokelau, Tonga Islands, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Tuvalu, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Vanuatu, Vietnam, Western Samoa, Yemen.

You just need a contact, the registrant doesn't have to fulfill the requirements him/herself and some registrars will probably provide you with a local contact for free.

Fiji, Australia, Cook Islands, ... Since when are those Asian countries? Cook Islands is closer to South America than to Japan :yell:

Anyways, I have seen several European registrars registering .ASIA names. They will probably provide you with the local address.

Isn't Australia separate continent?
I think it is the same like Israel is in Europe...

The address/contact has to be verifiable so if .ASIA registrar/authority contacts, someone is there to answer. Is it verifiable?

It does make sense honestly. Australia is another continent.

The UK is on the same globe as Asia, surely that makes us part of it?

you may have to get over it , besides there will agents available in registras , the same way as when i reg a .eu or .co.uk , the registery acts as my agent , so what's the problem ?

To base the geographical connection of a country on football, is quite silly. Australia may play football in Asia but is definitely not a part of the Asian continent.

Israel plays football in Europe, Morocco once participated in the Eurovision Song Contest. Should we allow .eu to be sold in those countries now as well based upon sports and music events?

Surinam plays football in Caribbean/N.American zone even though it is clearly in South America. Blame FIFA for it rather than trying to change the map :)

Although to some extend I can see why Australia is included in .asia due to approximaty. But what about Cook Islands and New Zealand? They can also buy .asia and those are definitely NOT Asian countries, not even close!
