I have always wanted to write an article on Domaining Addictions because sometimes I have thought...Am I an addict?

I was driving down the road yesterday, and one thought lead to another, then Domaining was on my mind once again.

Well, as soon as I got home I Posted a light-hearted article on my blog ( thedotstop.com/blog/2010/05/18/are-you-a-domain-addict ) and as I was writing it, I came to the conclusion that Yes, I do believe am addicted, and I am ok with it. It is challenging, and a constant learning process, and at times, very lucative.

Just curious to hear your thoughts...

Thanks,
Vito

Hi Vito,

I've just read your article and yes, I'm afraid I can see myself in a good 80% of the answers to those questions. Should I be alarmed?

That is the Ultimate question...

I honestly don't believe so as long as there are no negative effects as the outome of this domain addiction. IMHO.

A human has to be a addict to something or a number of things, I think domaining is much better than other things :P

Im addicted to the internet and computers in general, mostly the internet, its so powerful and its all at your hands.

You're right.
The computer addiction is a whole additional aspect of domaining addictions too...

I like things that make me feel good, and domaining does that for me.

domainaddict is taken in multiple extensions.

It is a very relevant term to our field here.
I would think as the .com, that domain would be worth at least mid $xx,xxx.

They say the first step is admitting you have a problem. :great:

it's a real problem i think... it's a task with no clear end, and always something new to try!

i've put a few tips up on ComputerAddiction.org if anyone's interested in reading them

Well I think if it's begun to take over your life and affecting it (taking too much time and finances) then you should look into it.

Domaining can be very addicting, though. Gotta keep it in control.

DomainingIntervention.com is available! (DomainIntervention.com is not)

...but who will get between me and my domain names??? Honestly, I just gotta buy more names. Thank God I have a partner that understands and enjoys domaining

Yeah Skinny,
That was basially my ultimate conclusion also.
Hobbies are good, great even but one it becomes an obsession, and other important facets of your life are lacking, then it's time to re-evaluate what is really more important to us.

Grina,

You are a very lucky man.

Hold onto that treasured partner of yours forever. It takes someone very secure to allow you/us/whoever all of this time away from them without feeling that "Needi-ness" and getting frustrated.
and I hope you can spoil your partner with lots of treasures from some great Sales of your stellar .US Portfolio!

Vito:)

Not now I'm not, no.

Years ago (late 1990's, early 2000s), instead of buying domain names with an eydropper, I should've bought them with a backhoe. Oops. I was young; I blame it on youth and being and more interested in chasing poon than sitting in front of a computer, studying domain names... Back then, I just bought what best fit whatever purpose I had at that time.

In 08/09, I only got back into domain buying because of the substantial deterioration that has occurred in their sale prices. For the first time in a while, I was seeing real bargains out there as liquidity panic started to hit the domain market (along with every other market). Obviously, as someone who manages development, domains are an integral part of what I do, but they're not the central part. You learn to deal with domains and 'domainers' , but when the blood started flowing and the sheep headed for the door, I moved in.

Now, I only buy names that serve a purpose- names that have an *actual* plan as opposed to a theoretical plan. Maniacally registering a bunch of names that don't earn their keep is a recipe for disaster in the year 2010. The only time I even bother speculating on the aftermarket to 'flip' is when it's a total headshot, slam-dunk, no risk proposition that for some reason, no one else is seeing.

Everything else, I'm dropping or giving away. I want less domains, not more. It's gotten to the point where I absolutely hate acquiring a new domain name. Only when it's just plain retarded for me to NOT do so is when I pull the trigger.
