With the massive domain tasting you could hardly find any BIG .com/.net/.org/.info typos. In the cctld's you can still find ones that get xx or xxx hits a day, but you have to make your own research, and it can take days, and you might end up spending big amount on cctlds (in most cases they are not cheap), and not getting the desired traffic/revenue. To avoid this, try to spend as much time on research as you can, and always check OVT (for the specific country if it exists - http://www.keyword-optimization-tools.com/search-term-suggestion-tools.html ), check SE results etc. Good luck!
Here's how I find these - any sites I commonly visit and accidentally mis-spell commonly lead me to non-registered domains. When I see this, I snap them up! If I am mis-spelling in this manner, someone else is bound to be doing so as well!
A friend of mine has and continues to register typos all the time, and he makes a ton of money from them. So to answer your question, yes. He also spends more time researching domains and typos in general than anyone I know, but he can afford to since he makes 6-figures from parking income.
Let me tell you, i didnt believe there were any good typos, until i did some nifty research and boy oh boy, in 2 weeks my parking earnings went from low XX - Mid XX a day . Shows there are LOTS of typos left.
