Poor people are poor because they are lazy. If you’re on unemployment, you’re lazy. If you’re on food stamps, you’re lazy. If you don’t earn enough to owe any federal income tax, you’re lazy. If you’re retired, you’re lazy. If you are a poor single mom, you’re lazy.:notme:

But if you are a rich married mom, you are a saint. :great:

Do you guys agree?

One thing I found out in my long life of hiring and firing people for various companies.
And still true today.
Too many people walk in the door and expect to make the same as someone who has worked at the company for years and years.
They expect easy hours, easy work, etc etc.

And companies do not sit and wait and wait for people to show up.
Run an ad, and bam! There are people coming out of the woodwork.

If there are truly lazy people who do not want to work?
They are on welfare and do not have to work.
EVER!

How do you define poor?

Someone earning just enough to live but with a strong circle of family and friends is much richer than someone with millions whose friends and relatives only like them for their money, :imho:

----

But actually answering the question;

The problem with some unemployed people is that they expect something for nothing, particularly in the UK where there is a strong benefits system to back them up. Did you know that an unemployed single parent in this country can earn more than two part-time working parents, simply from benefits? Children growing up in unemployed households are more likely to also be unemployed, more likely to get into trouble and more likely to do badly at school - it's a statistical fact.

I know a lot of unemployed, poor graduates. They're not lazy, but the reason they are unemployed is they have 'expectations' of the employment they should be receiving. Instead of taking that call centre job for some valuable experience, they wait instead for their ideal job to come along, living off benefits in the meantime. It's not laziness, it's just being misguided.

Obviously, as people above have noted, everyone is different - but we do live in a world where hard working people are not rewarded and those who don't put in the effort or are unwilling to do so, are duly rewarded for their (lack of) effort.

I think it depends on the country we're living in. Here in Manila, there are quite a number of poor people but we can't really say that they are lazy. I have heard and witness different story wherein people who are poor are really hardworking. One of the reason they remain poor is that they weren't able to achieve the educational attainment required for them to have a stable job. A lot of jobs right now requires the applicants to have a bachelor's degree, in which in the state of poor people, that is something they can't have. So the result is that they are stuck to a job that is not enough to provide them the necessary things they need in life.
