What The Site Does
Considering just the domain it's $0 - low $xx. I didn't really figure what the purpose of the website is. Is this a kind of website analysis tool and what factors are used for ranking of websites?
The value of the domain and website as a package all depends on stable proven revenue. If this site gets success you might wanna considering switching to a better domain.
The ranking is based on an algorithm that favors websites that link back to us. Once a webmaster searches for his domain, that domain enters the database and the initial page gets parsed; site-level drilldown. When the webmaster is viewing his website details, there's a link for the webmasters to click on that shows code to add a link back to top10000.info. The code is a script that displays the websites rank, such as "This website is ranked #4 on Top10000.Info". The ranking updates dynamically every time the ranking script runs.
The next time the analysis runs (crontab every 6 hours), it scans the websites for the link back to top10000.info and factors them higher. After the link backs, the ranking is a function of popularity, Alexa ranking, Google rankings, etc. There is another scheduled job that runs on a windows server that pulls snapshots of every website in the database and inserts them into the database, so you have thumbnails for the main page and larger images for the site level drill-down.
In this approach, no maintenance is required and the website continues to re-rank websites while new websites are added everyday. There are some other scheduled jobs that proactively look for new domains to add. However, there is a throttle in the script that limits how many new domains can be added per scheduled job so that there is never a sudden expansion of new pages.
I started the domain with 1500 sites and without doing anything, it has grown to over 100,000 sites and all of the sites on the main page have nicely visible back links because it shows their high rank and links back to their page, not the main page. Although, that is a variable that can be changed (the whole insert can be changed). I just figured that more webmasters would participate if the snippet showed them as a high rank and the link was to a page about them.
Furthermore, users can add reviews about any website. The reviews are filtered to eliminate bad data and then posted dynamically. The existence of reviews is also factored into the website's ranking.
The concept was to create a self-sustaining, organically growing website with low overhead. The next step would be to open niche ranking sites and use the exact same scripts for each niche. You could easily open 100 new ranking websites targeting different niche's and have the same scripts and scheduled jobs, updating the data for each website in all 100 ranking sites. All 100 new ranking sites could reside on the same hosting account, on the same server, even using the same MySQL database. So all management is centralized and absolutely no duplication of work. Meaning that evolving the ranking sites would be easy since you change the settings one time for all 100 ranking sites and not 100 times.
I don't know if I explained that well... but that's what the website does and why it might be worth more than 25$
