just about 16 year old domain with "cute" mis-spell. Another no no?

Unfortunately this domain isn't strong enough for a typo version to be worth anything. I can't fathom how it was registered every year for 16 years? Only reason I can think of is that it somehow has traffic .. in which case there might be some value .. but all of it from the traffic .. not the actual name I'm sorry to say.

So I did just purchase it? Do you think $2k was too much? Me tooooo! LOL, slightly more than hand reg, and Ill have to renew basically now. So say 3x namepros hand reg, basically.

Did you pay 2k for this name? It has a chance, but the name with only one T is a site for a topless bar, which doesnt help if you want children to come to your site.
Age can mean nothing as people fall in love with their names, or it changed hands a few times without dropping. Or

Misspellings make a domain appear unprofessional.

The very reason that "com" is the most popular TLD in the first place is because "com" sounds the most professional and credible of all TLDs. That's why most commercial enterprises especially in the finance industry use "com" and avoid "net" like the plague. "Net" sounds unprofessional and untrustworthy.

Just like having a "net" TLD, having a misspelling in a name would also make it sound unprofessional. Having a misspelling in a "com" TLD will diminish or even cancel out the very benefits that a "com" TLD offers.

You'll have a better chance with a domain that is spelled correctly that uses an alternative TLD like RedParrot.net or RedParrot.co.

For banking and insurance websites, having a ".net" extension would of course make it sound unprofessional and untrustworthy.

However, if your website is a forum or an image sharing site, having an alternative TLD like ".net" isn't much of a detriment.

rule of thumb (for me at least) is to only have one change to a word or combination when deciding on a brand.

Z a m p l e e (not good, because of the 2 change; in the 'S' to 'Z' + the 'e') the same goes with 2 word brand names

In an old version of your post you attached an image of an automated tool that valuated RedParrott.com to be $10,000.

However, I would stay away from automatic valuation tools, especially if the domain name contains a misspelling.

Many automated valuation algorithms determine the value of a domain partly based on the search result count. If a search engine returns a lot of results, then, the domain would be valued high (if everything else is equal).

However, many misspelled domains are also valued very high by those tools because Google or Bing auto-corrects some of the misspellings into correctly spelled popular keywords, returning a high result count, fooling the algorithm.

Fair enough. Just for the sake of clarity, I was not thinking it is worth 10k. But I thought it is such an outlier from other valuations, that paying 3x hand reg for a 16 year old domain seemed like a good gamble. And I know all about bad gambles, as I lost about 150 hand reg fees at the casino today
