been around since 2000 or so,
I am considering the option of running a shopping and deal portal, but before I invest in it, i would like to know how much such a domain is worth, and whether a shopping site would be the best thing to monetize the site

Hi, sorry I have no experience in these two niches.
It's just a suggestion because the cost of coupon site development is much cheaper.com than a quality price comparison site.

Here's a script I found before. PHP Coupon Script and Software (I have no relationship with this site) just FYI.
With some unique customizations, I'm sure you can get a good functional coupon site.

This is one of a very small percentage of domains that has built in value. Forgive me if I am wrong, but it sounds like you don't develop on an elite level. So the domain probably has more value to a large company than the extra income you would see from using this over a more average domain.

If this were mine, I would be very intent on selling it and using some of the money to develop the price comparison site on another domain.

In other words, don't drive a Ferrari to the grocery store.

The right end user might even go mid xxx,xxx. I would hold until the economy gets better, unless you do get an offer that you simply can't refuse.

but doesnt the potential traffic to a shopping / deals domain called cheaper, have an unfair adavantage over myodddomain.net that seo would have a hard time getting over? (assuming i would invest in cheaper)
