AppleInsider reports Apple has hired video game designers and may be planning to enter the home video game console market in the future.

Prudential analyst Jesse Tortora said, โ€œWe think the video game market represents a distinct possibility for Apple, especially considering that it recently announced the availability of video games for its iPod through its iTunes store.โ€

I don't know why, but I see apple enjoying great success in the video games industry... looking forward to buying their new console's typos :D

I think Apple has the knowhow and muscle make a huge dent in the market..

I agree, they would also have the hardware know-how. It'd be more of a Wii-type console more than a High Definition "OMG look at the pixel depth!" type of console.

There's a market for it I think :)

Wow, everyone is stealing ideas. Microsoft started and now Apple loses their unique ability. First, they dual boot and switch processors and now they want to develop video games. IMHO, Apple will temporarily succeed and then crash and burn because they are trying to "fit in" when their mystique is what sells their systems.

Yep..

http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,125772-page,6/article.html

"Before Xbox, before PlayStation, before DreamCast, there was Apple's Pippin. Wha-huh? That's right--Apple had an Internet-capable game console that connected to your TV. But it ran on a weak PowerPC processor and came with a puny 14.4-kbps modem, so it was stupendously slow offline and online.

Then, too, it was based on the Mac OS, so almost no games were available for it. And it cost nearly $600--nearly twice as much as other, far more powerful game consoles. Underpowered, overpriced, and underutilized--that pretty much describes everything that came out of Apple in the mid-90s."

Apple had entered the game console market way before Microsoft and Sony maybe.

The market is stretched enough right now with Wii, PS3, XBOX360 ... they should just name their new venture iFailure

I don't agree.

There were/are many MP3 players on the market but iPOD is on the
moment the most sold mp3 player in the world.

Who had tought that Windows actually would have a competition
with another OS.

I think the apple mobile phone will be a huge success and Nokia will
feel also the impact from Apple.

I myself use 99% a windows machine.
But, I think apple does great things. They make great hardware
and software. As such I think they are making a great move by
stepping into this market.
They are now mature enough to take the risk. IMO

See Apple used to be great. Apple and Google alike. They pave the way for great innovations. Now, both it seems like, are starting to lose ideas and steal ideas from the rest of the companies. I have no true respect for any of the companies talked about in this thread.

Yet, we use their services everyday! ; )

Well, what would I say? Let's just wait for that game console to come out. :)

I don't care to look up any articles. In fact, it may have only been idea, and not that of any apple insiders even, but I remember hearing that Apple, at one point, did approach Nintendo about a possible merger and/or buyout.

I think that Apple's next step with the iPod could possibly be emulation. Play Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Nintendo Games, SNES Games, Playstation Games on your iPod.

The idea of Apple trying to compete in the bleeding-edge Next Generation market I think would be a mistake.

It'd be good for the industry to have a fourth competitor IMO

Perhaps this would mean the future generation of Macs actually focusing more on playability?
