Anyone tried Build A Niche Store (BANS) for eBay instead of Parking ?

I like the concept b/c it is not dependent on Google or Yahoo for success, otherwise I would probably heap it in with all the other MFA programs out there now. This is based mainly on ebay

Has anyone tried this yet? It builds a store for eBay, plus you can add content and adsense, etc... It seems it would be a good solution on carefully chosen domains. On some domains, I can't see it working at all since they don't fit in tightly with any eBay auctions, but others are a perfect match. Many sites look good and surprisingly seem to give some real value to the surfer unlike the millions of crappy automated MFA sites.

Here are some examples I found:

http://www.turboguides.com/
http://www.usgoldcoinauctions.com/
http://www.homegrownsushi.com/

And, after doing a little research it appears many folks are making money doing this. How much? It is hard to say since the info. out there seems limited since not everyone wants to disclose their income, but a few have showed their earnings on various sites and blogs. I could see this working, but all of the working sites I have seen are based on really lame domains.

I just wonder if anyone has tried it on a great generic domain yet, or an expired domain with big traffic, and what were the results - especially compared to parking?

I'm not sure which ftp program you are using but generally you right click the file and there will be an option for CHMOD.

In English, you are simply changing the file permissions for the cont.php file to limit access.

If there is not an option to enter a number, only check marks, 644 is

U(ser) Read / Write
G(roup) Read
E(veryone) Read
Thank You!

So if things are not checked 644, what will the site look like or what would not work? I think everything was good from the start, so not sure why BANS shows that.

Some hosting companies require that you change the permissions to 777 (unlimited permissions) and then back to 644 (limited) before completing the BANS site installs. You don't want to leave the permissions at 777, becuase then everyone who visits your site can theoretically write to it.
Hostgator is one that does not require this, and it's nice to save the extra step.
If you have any questions about this, I'm pretty sure it's covered in the BANS documentation that is included with the purchase.

Here are some often-used permissions settings:
-rw------- (600) — Only the owner has read and write permissions.

-rw-r--r-- (644) — Only the owner has read and write permissions; the group and others have read only.

-rwx------ (700) — Only the owner has read, write, and execute permissions.

-rwxr-xr-x (755) — The owner has read, write, and execute permissions; the group and others have only read and execute.

-rwx--x--x (711) — The owner has read, write, and execute permissions; the group and others have only execute.

-rw-rw-rw- (666) — Everyone can read and write to the file. (Be careful with these permissions.)

-rwxrwxrwx (777) — Everyone can read, write, and execute. (Again, this permissions setting can be hazardous.)

Some scripts will issue a warning that the site has improper permissions and not let you continue, but I don't think BANS is one of them.

If you don't change the permissions your site will be easier to hack.

Hi,
how long does it take to be accepted from ebay?
I've submitted about 24 hrs ago but no response.
Is it normal?
Thanks.

Looking for some feedback on my latest BANS project....

http://www.Unopen.com

I purchased the domain via TDNAM for $5 bin + renewal. Got the domain last night. ;)

Approx 4 hours of work into the site, which includes the Header, adding Ads, Content on each page, selecting "products", footer keywords, page titles, meta keywords.

Header was created with http://xheader.com (free)

Colors to the site were untouched as I liked the look with the header.

Niche = New, but Unopened electronics.
Domain fits Niche well IMO.

Has anybody noticed that MSN seems to be ranking BANS sites pretty well?

my Fruitcake.biz ranks pretty well for several fruit cake related terms.

Buy Fruitcake delivers #2 ahead of several .com's I might add.. lol

Fruitcake # 6

Fruit cake # 6

Fruitcake Biz # 1 & 3

Well, that was fun. I've just read every post on 16 pages re- BANS+ebay+affiliate.
Very enlightening and a BIG thank you for all the info.
I've applied for an eBay affiliate account and if and when I get approved, I'm immediately going to set up a BANS site. Hopefully I'll be back with questions and input to this thread.
All the best and thanks again.

I think if you have a good rating on ebay and sign up with the same email address you can get in relatively easy. At least that's the only reason I can think of why I got in without a hitch and everyone else seems to be having a problem.

If you're having problems getting into EPN you need to do two things, first signup with a non-BANS store and make sure you use a "real" email (from your ISP, or your own domain) instead of something like gmail or yahoo. Lately eBay has had a lot problems with malicious affiliates and 90% of them will signup with a fake BANS website and a gmail account.

I used them a while back while they were still on cj and I was able to make a very nice amount of money with very little work on my part. If you have the time it is a good deal.

Has anyone used this ebay WordPress plugin from Affomatic?

http://www.affomatic.com/ebayfree/

I've seen some good reviews but I have tried it myself. Thought I would see if anyone's taken it for a "spin."

Funny you ask, I have that plug in and I keep delaying time to make a store with it, but this can be the solutions for hundreds of members!

Thanks again for the link. Rep given.

I gave it a try. I'm comparing it to phpbay lite. Affomatic has some options like countries and relevance that are better than the free phpbay. I also like the two colum format with Affomatic.

Here's a link with Affomatic: http://www.antique-glass.org/category/anchor-hocking/coronation/

And one with phpbay lite:

They also have a stand alone ebay store.

No database needed.

I set up http://prepaidcellphones.in in like 10 minutes. It's just the basic store and I have to content or it will get slapped but you can't beat the price. It's ok to remove the "powered by" link as well.

All I used for the product list was the Google Adwords tool and removed what I didn't want. Paste it into the product list and it's up. It needs more work but wow it was fast and easy.

I'm going to set-up a couple of sites with the Affomatic plugin and I will post them for everyone to see.

r72gs your sites look good. Glad to hear it is such a quick set-up.

they both look good but on firefox, at least on my computer, the affomatic one has some words running into the next column where u have 2 items side by side. (in phpbay, since there's only one column that isnt happening)

BANS Still Working?

So, with all the brouhaha back in August about eBay changing their EPN policies and banning some affiliate members, and all the talk of BANS sites getting de-indexed from Google, is anyone STILL using BANS?

In the current state of the economy and domain parking, are the BANS sites making any money compared to parking (the original topic of this thread by the OP)? Are any of the BANS alternatives mentioned in this thread working any better?

I purchased BANS maybe a year ago, set it up on a domain and had no luck, so I re-parked the domain with the intention of trying it again on a few other domains. Now I'm reminded 1) to do it and 2) why I wanted to do it. It's good to see that people are making money from this.
