From the Snowe Bill, to Google's annoucement that advertisers can opt out of parking pages to the many posts online you come across confusing domainers with cybersquatters, the whole field of domaining is at risk. It is our fault that people are being ripped off in domain scams and cons. It is our fault that Paypal and does not stand behind us. Yet, we continue to point our fingers at the rest of the world. We continue to feel victimized or we can do something about it!

I believe that the best way to legitimize and help strengthen domaining is through a campaign based on education. We need to educate the public, the Noob, the casual investor, etc.. We need to warn people about scams and cons as well as There are many great blogs online as well as sites that sell domains, however, there is little out there geered strictly towards educating people . A site without personal bias, hype, sales ads, etc...

Saturday I registered DN Collecting.com and posted a rough outline of a site. I'm trying to make the site look like an easy to navigate book. I will not make a penny off this site and all I wish to do is be the webmaster. If your interested in helping with this project please PM or Post any information, corrections, revisions, etc..

I didnt read all of this cuz its really long and simply dont want to.

If we bring more people in here especially if they have deep pockets the markets will become sturated even more. Also prices on valuable domains such as LLL.coms and other domains of that value will sky rocket and the little man will have no way of making an investment of that large, without losing something.

I would also like to point out that the community of domainers stand up for ourselves when we need to. For instance we all come together to find a scammer or a con and trust no one and i mean no one deals with those people at all. They pretty much shot themselves in the foot.

Another thing i would like to point out is most domainers dont put all their eggs in the same basket. For example i have other investments and work full time. So the community might be affect by something but it will not crush most of us and for the people that are doing full time, they know what they are doing and dont cybersquat at all.

Also i think what the domain industy needs is more liquidty. Like LLLL.coms and domains of that nature. I think that flipping domains adds liquidty to the market and it helps the day to day domainer get some profit out of domains that are not SUPER PREMIUM. Some people might say the days of flipping are over but that is because they do not have an eye for value.

I see what you are saying about educating people and i support that 100%. Educate people about domaining but dont forget to educate people about the value of a domain. I have an article that i wrote a while ago and if you want you can use it on your site.

Also, a will known site that educates people on domaining if you have not heard of it before and was written by a famous domainer is NameNewbie.com. Basically what you are trying to do is what they have already done.

Thanks for the PMS and also thanks for the offer of a article TIVO. Yes, I like Namenewbie. However, it seems to be geared towards only the Noobs.

I know they have coin collecting books, stamp collecting books, antique collecting books, so why not a DN collecting book? A place where you can go just for the facts like...

When were all the LLL.coms registered, LLL.nets, LLL.orgs
Which type of TLD's are all registered (L-L, LLL, LLLL and in what TLD's.)
How many CVCVC domains are there.
How many .nets are left.
How many CVCV.orgs are taken?
What are the different types of domain scams.
What are all the different tlds.
Minimum price guides for .com, .net, .org

Yeah, I know it would be a major undertaking to make a DN collecting book, however, I think it might be a worthwhile project so that people can easily find facts and figures for their own research or websites, etc..

I see where you are coming from now. It would be cool to write a book about DN collecting. The only problem is that the domain name game literally can change day to day. I mean buy outs affect a lot of domains at once. So when one of those happen certain domains shoot up in value. Also as you have heard of the Snowe Bill, if that got passed some aspects of domaining would change.

I do see what you are saying though. Kind of like a fact type of thing. To make a website like you are doing is a great idea and should be done. Once i read up on the project a little more i will see what i can do about helping you out.

Sounds like a good idea, Im starting a new site to post my domains for sale but also wanted to include info and links to resources so people could make informed buying decisions. Keep us posted.

I'm not stressed about the snowy bill. The domain industry has to mature and this is just a bump in the road. Good on you if you want to fight for the rights of domainers.

Your right. I included a great article by Rick Swartz that was about 12 paragraphs long. I removed it along with my last paragraph so I wouldn't overwhelm anyone else (like I did TIVO).
