Is there any value in .IO domains?

If all other domains are taken for a word is their value in the .IO of the same?

Just curios as have seen one of interest.

Thanks

.io market is very limited. If the keyword you are looking for is taken in all the other TLDs, it might be a strong generic one, so it might have value.

Don't kid yourself; I have been acquiring the best .io domains for quite some time. I won't go into all the details of what I learned with .io, I will just follow my gut :D

also planning on doing my biggest development project yet on "Locations.io"

Thanks,

Jason

IMO, it's a start up fad.

Once these start ups discover .com bleed, they will be scrambling to acquire the .com versions of their .io domains. It's happening with .co, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it happen with .me.

Having said this, I think it's a cool-looking ccTLD, and great if the start up has the .com counterpart--that way, bleed to .com won't matter.

You can't get a much better keyword. Definitely worth the steep registration/renewal fee.

Congrats!

I was going to say this. You can develop virtually any generic descriptive domain with a lot of success, even if it's a ccTLD.

So do they only really tend to have value once developed?

^ That often happens. There is a long list of end users who had to upgrade their domain hacks at some point.

Domain hacks are not great for ambitious projects.

Domain hacks are nice, but the only use they are great for is as branded url-shorteners. The trend, for big projects, is to have the main website on .com/national TLD and the corresponding shortener as a hack.
