I prefer generic .cc domains over hard to remember .com or .net domains.

I picked up coolshirts.cc yesterday for a Zazzle site, just seemed easier to remember and pretty generic. I also picked up hotlinks.cc a month or so ago.

Anyone do the same thing, at least for developing purposes?

Alot of keywords are available in lesser known cctld but of course, if you're going for branding, any name will do but like it or not, be prepared to lose traffic to its .com counterpart. Good luck with your sites. :)

Well I don't mind losing a little type in traffic, I am just trying to focus on search engine stuff. I usually split up my development to see which pans out better. I am running terribletshirts.com as well, and I am #1 in google for Terrible T-Shirts, now if I can only get to number 1 for cool shirts, lol.

If the name I wanted was not available in the .com and that .com was not developed. I would definitely revert to something like .cc. With the right marketing these names can get as much traffic as any other TLD.
