AntiSpyware Soft - New Virus

And it's a nasty one...

And I picked it up twice now while on 2 different Social Bookmarking sites. It's not the sites themselves responsible for the virus but I think it has to do with the ads they are using on the site.

(Bookmark it in Firefox or any other browser other than Explorer as the virus appears to take that browser over and won't let you use it - At least I had the least amount of problems browsing using Firefox while infected with the virus)

I know of someone who got hit with this. Malwarebytes did a good job of cleaning it up but you need to boot in safe mode (since the virus doesn't let you open it in normal mode).

There's also a manual removal that involves killing the process and deleting a bunch of registry entries.

Kind of ironic how so many "anti spyware" products turn out to be spyware themselves. Can't imagine how many people get duped into thinking AntiSpyware Soft is actually a legit piece of software as it does look pretty "official" looking.

I got hit with this yesterday, and I haven't been on FB for quite some time. No idea where I got it from and yes it was quite a pain to get rid of.
