Another .ws Thread (Closed!)

[Closed! Issue has been resolved. Thanks.]

I just registered 4 .ws domains today on impulse at GD, and I'm kinda regretting.

I found out later that it's not as straightforward as gTLDs, e.g. tiered registration pricings, cannot transfer domains, etc.

Now I'm having problems with forwarding my .ws domains - they keep landing at website.ws (main .ws registrar) promotional pages. Anyone have any experience with this?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
.US domains.US domains
It takes a while (some hours) for the nameservers to resolve, but other than that .ws should work as any other GD registered domain when it comes to forwarding.

did you change the nameservers or do you use GD's nameservers? If you changed the nameservers it can take a couple of hours before the change kicks in, so patience is the key word :D

(I guess some of the problems you just mentioned are good reasons why the .ws domain hasn't made it into the "Big 6" TLD list..)

Just wait a little while and see what happens..... are you useing the forwarding provided or via cpanel.etc?

I'm using GD's default name servers and yes, I see the forwarded address in GD's domain management panel.

Try this address and see if you see the promotion landing page: premierleague.ws

GD's support told me that they don't see the landing page from their side and that it's a problem with my connection.

Look's like GD's Tech Support was trying to BS me with "it's you connection problem..." :alien:

Redleg: Yeah, I've edited my post to "closed". Thanks to everyone for your help - truly appreciate it.

And FYI, the response at NamePros was faster than GD's Tech Support so give yourselves a pat in the back :)

It has definately NOTHING to do with your connection - that must've been a very uneducated tech you talked to over @ GD.

A lil bit off topic here.

How much did you buy the .ws domains? US$9.99-US$1=US$8.99?
Anywhere cheaper (with DNS Management service+URL/Email forwarding)

I bought at $8.99 and forwarding's free. website.ws (the official .ws registrar) charges $49 a year.

Btw, the people at website.ws are a greedy bunch of people. Here's their pricing scale:

a) 1 character - $50,000 /yr
b) 2 characters - $1,000 /yr
c) 3 characters - $500 /yr

Since they're 26 letters in the alphabet and 10 numbers (0-9), this is how much they make:

a) 36 x 50,000 = $1.8m /yr
b) 36 x 36 x 1,000 = $1.3m /yr
c) 36 x 36 x 36 x 500 = $23m /yr

Total = $26,000,000 per year ...and that's just for 1-3 characters!

... the only prob. is most of these 1-3 character/letter .ws names are avail. so in reality they prob. arnt making much. I suggested to them that they lower their pricing which would increase the overall amount of these types of name registrations, but no go... I dont think the .ws people have any math skills lol

Yes, the increased numbers of .ws registrations from lower prices would also promote the extension better...
