Hi everyone. I've been interested in domain flipping for the last 3 years. I realize I probably should have started back then but I always felt like it was a lost cause, at least for me. Lately it's been on my mind a lot so I finally decided to go for it. I figured you never know if you don't try. I thought if I'm careful and only buy a few domains to see how it goes, I won't have lost much even if it's a bust.

I ended up buying 6 domains, 4 of which I admit are horrible. I looked at them the day after purchasing them and thought "What was I thinking?". The other 2 I feel are okay, but probably not great. I have them for sale on GoDaddy for their appraisal price. Wondering if I should lower it or maybe just eat the cost if they actually aren't good domains.

I have been trying to learn about domain selling and so glad I found this forum because a lot of info I was finding online was old or not really answering my questions. Anyway my domains are:

southcoastriders.com (thinking it would be good for motorcycles/bikers or cyclists)

planmyroadtrip.com (my thought with this one is it'd be good for a site featuring how to plan a road trip, traveling/road trip tips, sights to see, things like that)

Their appraisal prices are over $1000 each, but I imagine that's just an estimate. Should I lower it, keep it as is, or are they just crap domains? I know it'll be hard to hear but I want the truth and want to learn.

    Hello!

There are numerous threads, posts and opinions on NamePros dealing with many of your questions that if searched and read may be of assistance in your domain endeavors.

Might also suggest you consider putting domains in the APPRAISAL section of NamePros where you might receive one or more member's opinions regarding values for your domains.

You didn't mention who or how you arrived at the prices for your names other than mentioned " appraisal prices " - and I'm not inquiring but the source of the appraisals may be subject to opinions as well.

    Welcome to NamePros!

You have some interesting long tails (3 or more words).

I can see the usage for them exactly like you stated. I still own a few long-tails, but I generally develop mine, as a hobbyist. That way, even if they never sell, they generate their own revenue to cover renewals every year and bring in a little profit so nothing is out of pocket.

Your first one, South Coast Riders, has a few existing applications:
    Song Title
    FaceBook Page
    BMW riders club
    Streetmasters
Here are a few existing MC's that can benefit from your asset

The above asset has potential for and end-user, in my opinion.

    Plan My Road Trip:
Trip planners are everywhere and many of them are free and have an App version. WordPress also has some free addons with trip planning features, making it easier for a hobbyist to add another trip planner to market. Unfortunately, this domain asset may have more hobbyist interest than end-user.

When it comes to any domain asset, the hard part is identifying the potential end-user, gathering more research on their specific niche, formulating a presentation, negotiating, and closing. You will have to do a lot of leg-work to find the right buyer and apply the hard parts I mentioned above, which in most cases, investors fail at.

    See you around.

Thanks for the info! I used GoDaddy's appraisal tool. I'll definitely post my questions in the appraisal section.

Not sure when it was exactly you registered them, but note that many registrars offer a grace deletion period when you can get your funds back if you decide to delete the domain name. It is typically a few days, but not all offer it. Just in case it is still possible to grace delete some that you now regret.

I believe it! I've seen more info here already than on GoDaddy's own forum.

b4 buyin anything else, make sure to read more threads on nP!

when ppl say read nP, iz hard cuz u don't know where to start. All threads are arranged by date and not by value. So I guess you should start by searching (using np search) to find threads where people give advice to noobs. Like ( need help beginner) or keywords like that.

You should look through the domain sail thread which has over 700 pages of ppl reporting sails.

the most important thing in domaining is to attain the "eye" = the ability to tell between good and bad domains. Once you have that, it doesn't matter if you have $10 or $1,000 to invest in domains. With a single $6.99 namesilo reggae, you'll be able to flip that on nP within a day for $20+.

    Hi Eric,

dev'ing for renewals sounds interesting! if u dont mind can u explain more? Because I have some sites with AdSense, but they're not making more than a few cents (stagnant). I had the impression that you needed an active site to pull in some serious revenue or even enough revenue.

Are you doing just a few-paged sites and then leaving them there for 365 days and they're able to make over $10? That would be amazing! Was wondering what you'd recommend and the best monetization.

    I hope that helps,

I made a mock-up/landing page for my southcoastriders.com domain. luckylydia.com/southcoastriders I'll probably try and add some links and more information before connecting it to the .com.
I plan on doing this for any future domains too.

Not sure what I'm going to do with planmyroadtrip.com yet. As Eric said, there is a lot of that type of thing already. I thought about contacting one of those apps/sites and seeing if they'd like to buy it for cheap. I don't know if I'd get anywhere that way but couldn't hurt? I can't think off hand but I know I've seen sites in the past that have their brand name .com but also used a generic .com. Like say if Dial soap has dial.com but also soap.com, something like that.
