An idea I have

Hi,

Well like I say this is just an idea I have. I was looking on the internet for an images today and could not find what I was looking for and hearing about all these users also asking about you paying royalties for using their images.

So I have an idea to make my own images site where are the images can be used for free without anyone asking for “royalties” what are peoples ideas?

There's a ton of sites to get images for free or for very cheap royalties...

and aside from that, if you made that site, where would you get the images? Surely you won't be just copying them from other sites and sticking them on your own?

great idea, although you would be making something that has already been made, if you think and/or know you could do it better then go for it, otherwise you would prettymuch be wasting your time, I use http://www.sxc.hu/ for free images all the time, and not once have I had to worry about royalties, because they are mostly free, and clearly state if they aren't

Like I said. "Its jsut an idea" And thats what it is! And I would do the images myself and/or allow user to upload images they have made

I think we've met before in another forum.

I think you're likely to get told by many a million reasons why you shouldn't do it, irrespective of what it is, even if it were a solid cure for cancer!

The way I see it, is you just have to give it a shot. Try your best. And never give up... until you are too busy with other attempts, that is.

Same like running - because you might not have any remote chance of winning a marathon, should that fact make you not even try???

Most of the current free sites like this have low quality pictures, even sxc.hu has low quality pics. IF you could make the site being very selective of what is on it, ie have a review process for the pictures like istockphoto has, It could be good.

If you can go to istockphoto and get a high quality image for $1 or so, and the creator of the image gets a commission on the sale, why would a create make and upload high quality images to another image site for free? I just don't see a market for this type of site.

there are tons of image hosting sites

free ones in fact, I own one and they cost a lot to keep up

Their is asspect for it, instead of giving commsion for the person who uploaded the photo you could just give him a one off fee. This fee would be covered from adverts on the site and you would then be able to make it a free service. I am not sure though if you would get alot of money from it but it's worth a try :D
