So I bought this domain here on NP. Thought it was a great deal. It was part of three domains I bought as a package. All nice, aged, domains.

A couple days after buying the names, the seller wrote me that they had forgotten to remove one of the names from Sedo and that someone made an offer.

Anyway, fast forward a couple of weeks and i get an inquiry through the efty lander of that domain. It simply says, "Whats the price?" with a guys name and phone number.

I responded asking what their budget was roughly.

Next thing i get is this guy ranting about having bought the domain on sedo and that the seller failed to perform, and suggesting that I am somehow that sellers representative and all sorts of stuff out of the blue.

I just replied saying that I bought the domain from a seller i dont know, and that i would never sell for 1xx and that the name is currently on auction at namejet and they can consider bidding or if it doesnt hit reserve, we can talk more.

So weird!

Some buyers are like that. This is why I always mention that the name to be removed asap once payment is made and name transferred because a lot of names are still left on marketplaces and you never know what happens next.

Yes. First time its ever happened to me like that. Guy asks for a price then completely changed gears.

They expect you to agree to their price like they are entitled to.I just refused a little above mid-XXX and buyer was telling me about why I must accept his offer instead of waiting for my 4 figures because the offer wouldn't come.Told him thanks but will get back to him since he refused to pay low 3 figs.Next day I got another offer of 4 figures straight on another domain and which will help me have more patience on the other domain. Domaining is just so interesting with all the characters we get to come across.

Years ago, I picked up GipsyGirl.com from deleted domains, and shortly afterwards, I received a nice letter from a hosting company explaining that one of their clients had slipped up and let it expire. He explained that it was used by the client's girl friend, and would I be prepared to sell it. I suggested $25 for a quick turn, and he ( the hosting company ) agreed. About a couple of hours later, I got an extremely vitriolic letter from the client calling me a thief. I told him to eff off, and that I hoped his girlfriend withdrew his conjugal rights as a result of his incompetence, and that he would never own the name. I still own it, but I've never used it.

You never win by being abuse and insulting on the net, although the net seems to be full of keyboard warriors.

I am experiencing something similar for my domain ByteCapital.com.

I hand-registered it 2 years back. I have had xxxx offers on the domain. Its also accepted at BrandBucket. The previous owner / domainer (not sure if his claim is true) has been sending me emails since last 2 months. He said he forgot to renew it 2 years back (way too long ago) and sent me a $50 offer. I rejected the low ball offer. I wrote back stating that I am planning to keep the domain for development unless i get a tempting offer above xxxx-xxxxx. Then on every week he/she emails me offers with increments of $25. Currently $225 for this week.

Not really, I've been paying the renewal fees on the name ever since. I've just given the name to my girl friend, and she plans to use it for a hedgerow cooking site, but that means I'll have to do the work, so don't hold your breath for nettle soup and acorn cake recipes.

so, did the guy say he "made an offer", or did he "Buy it Now" on sedo?

did you check sedo to see if the name was still listed?

also, since you say they were "aged" names, did you park them first or just listed them at namejet?

just curious

imo...

He said specifically (copied from gmail)

"Originally I had a purchase agreement through Sedo for $122.00, but the seller did not follow through on his end. I believe you are representing the same seller? The transaction ended up being cancelled."

Not on Sedo anymore.

I first put on efty.

I checked my activity and found that I bought the domains in a group on 11/6...

W/h/a/t/s/H/a/p/p/e/n/i/n/g.net (2003)
T/h/e/C/r/e/a/to/r.net (2000)
L/o/n/d/o/n/G/u/i/d/e.org (2002)
L/o/c/k/e/r/R/o/o/m.org (2002)

The domain I'm talking about is the first one on the list.

Strange but it does happen. I was asked once to just handover the domain since I am not using it. Another interesting thing that happened to me one time was that I sold a domain for good money to guy who is part of the management in a city in a city in the US ( very high ranking ).

Few months later a guy emailed me saying he wants that name for school project because kids like the name and they want it. He was in a different city to the previous guy. The first guy who bought it did change my info. The first guy told me he might think of selling if he can make back the money cause he was having buyer remorse and because we agreed on a deal, he didnt want to backout and seem a bad person.

Knowing this, I asked the second why how much he was willing to pay? He said for my services 50. I gave him big price quote and told him you will need to come up with something like that. I told him sometimes I broker names. He went back to his friend then they discussed. The buyer told him the domain is in his account and he acquired it a long time ago.

This new guy, sent me an email , are you sure the domain is still with you? I said what matters is if we agree on the price then you will get the name. When He said , I contacted the first buyer and told him about it. He called me and emailed me, saying that is his business partner and he didnt know I bought the name. Sorry he wasted your time :D

Needless to say, the buyer was one of the best people I ever dealt with even with his position in government and such, He was pure businessman.

I had somewhat the opposite happen when I contacted a domain owner for a developed name that I wanted for a project of my own. Tried to buy it and the guy just gave it to me even though I offered to pay lol.

Weird world sometimes.
