I have recently bought a domain for low $xx. When I saw the domain for sale I knew it was worth the investment. It had been two weeks and I had an email inquiry titled "xxxxx.com purchase".

The email read:

hi,

i am interested in purchaing this domain.
whats the asking price?

i am not working w a huge budget but would strongly consider a reasonable price.

I replied:

Thanks for your inquiry. xxxxx.com has a great deal of value to me as I am a edit and web developer. It would take quite a nice offer for me to consider selling. It just has a parked page on it now however, there are development plans for it as it has a page rank of 2 and perfect keywords. Please only if you are seriously interested make me an offer and perhaps we can go from there.

That's a bit low, perhaps if you were able to stretch your budget a bit we could work something out. What are your plans for the domain?

His reply, same day:

how much more would you need?

couple ideas but nothing solid at this time.


This is where we stand now. What is my next move? I know you are going to want to know the domain but I cannot disclose at this time. It is a .com and the here are estibot results:

Well just curious to hear some opinions. I looked up the email and ip add in attempt to clue me in to where this person is coming from but I could find nothing. It is an email add from a simple little known email server site.

No it's not from any noted email scammers. I am pretty good about sniffing out appraisal or other scams and I never respond to those. The email isn't from there. He's not asking for any appraisal.

treat him with the silent approach, no replies at all for 4 to 5 days let's see
or straightforward say the price you want for the domain.

It seems like a scam to me I would see if he owns a website and look around there, I might try and call him and talk with him over the phone. Just to validate this is legit.

That seems like a great percent of estibot value. It would depend - are there factors that you think Estibot would not consider? Would you expect this domain to greatly outperform the overall domain market in the next few years? (I am much more reluctant to sell my LLLL.coms, for instance, because I believe them undervalued)

Unless there are major factors that say to keep it, I would be tempted to take the offer. If you try to push it higher he could fly.

Does not sound like a scam to me but use Escrow to be sure.

headsup: don't rely heavily on estibot, you can ask for a free domain appraisal here btw if you haven't done for the domain.

I would say wait a few days & if you are happy with his/her offer, say that you'd consider letting this name go for $1,300 & see what happens.

LOL.. it's just a term related to the keyword in the domain.. Let's just say if the domain was golfstar.com, the edit would be the word golfer.. Thanks for your opinion.

I guess I was just wondering when I posted the thread if anyone saw a reason to further negotiate. Are there any clues in the email exchanges that tells you this guy is really interested and/or actually representing a large company?

Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to be greedy and I am excited about the prospects of a sale like this with the amount of investment and time put in. On the other hand, I could see this domain being developed into a nice site by a large company. The fact that the persons emails are so obscure and even written with bad grammar is making me a bit suspicious he is hiding his true identity. There is no signature or other contact information in his emails either. I am not worried about being scammed as I would only use escrow for the transaction.

I would have taken that offer, but not knowing your domain name, I can understand your decision.

Some people might disagree with me, but at this point, he most likely will NOT apply back to you. If you want that money, you better be willing to chase after it
