I bought this one as a gift to my auto mechanic whose domain was allvovo (the exact name of his business). I kept finding myself mistyping it and ending up a browser error page. Currently just redirects to his business site, but he expressed zero interest in it when I sent him the details on how to transfer ownership.

Ah, I hadn't thought of that. I'll need to read up about trademarks in domain names. Could it be used by, for instance, a Volvo dealership? Or an online forum? I'm guessing the trademark issue means that if Volvo doesn't like what you're doing they can claim the domain and that's what makes it worth nothing. Am I on the right track?

I think you can start an unofficial fan website for volvo. The problem is that due to these restrictions and the risk of a possible UDRP, this domain doesn't have buyers willing to pay real money. For further info on the topic I suggest to read here

If someone has been licensed to use the term they can use it, but you have not been...That is why it is a TM issue.

A non-monetized discussion forum or fan site might come under fair use, but it is not really worth exploring that much. The domain really has no resale value.
