888999.com translate literally as Lucky Forever.

who will buy this domain for $5 million? I'm thinking the owner is banking on a casino to buy it that wants to attract superstitious chinese gamblers.

so yea 9 is lucky second only to 8 but some might disagree that 9 is more lucky. depends on which chinese person you speak to.

I too am a fan of the LLL8.com, LLL88.com and LLL888.com (where L = Everything But A,E,I,O,U,V). I could be mistaken, but I believe all LLL8888.com are also taken.

I thought the same thing! what about putting numbers before LLL? is there some proper etiquette or Chinese superstition against it? like maybe it's bad luck to put numbers in front of a domain or name or Letters?
