    Hi,

Does Alexa traffic stats, stop recording traffic after the domain name is off line or when you get a error 404?

    Another words,

If domain X had a traffic count of 100,000 on Alexa up until January 1st. , and then domain X was unavailiable for say 3 months, would't the traffic count now be something like: 3,345,000.... - 3,245,000 ??

And would Alexa still show the correct number of "links" to domain X?

Thanks for your replys in advance.

It still counts, and it shows links to the page and pages the visitors also visits.

    My experience anyway.

It would be great if Microsoft made a simular site, that traced all traffic of IE.

That would be pretty good, but everyone would have to patch it.

And can't go to some "sites" anymore, if you know what I mean :p

    Hi,

The more I go over the information at Alexa, the more I am discovering that their information is not very up to date or accurate.

May of the websites link pages do not exist anymore. A lot say that they have a link in the Yahoo directory or Dmoz, but a LOT of them don really exist anymore.

It seems to me there is a huge market at there for someone who can come up with a way to track traffic and links more accurately.

    Thanks for your replies,
    Dan

    Re: Alexa traffic stats

Alexa counts what people who use its toolbar visit. It does not go out and count sites on its own. The Alexa spider will crawl sites frequently and often snap shot them for its index, but it is user traffic that drives the counts. That may cause a site that is gone to eventualy drop from the index. As long as it stays listed in the index, the rank is based upon page visits. So if it is off line for an extended period and stays in the index it will by dafault get a higher listing number. One last thing, those numbers are not actually traffic count. They are traffic rankings. The higher the traffic and the higher the page views per visit, the lower the rank number (numerically). Low numbers are good.

Also FYI, its "In Other Words" not "Another Words". Thought you may want to know...

    Thanks for the english lesson.

Is there a resource that you can check to see if a webiste has multiple links to it...other than Alexa?

Is there a resource that a person could use to check multiple URLs at one time using Alexa?

    Thanks,
    Dan

Right, so basically Alexa stats aren't reliable.

Read their disclaimers and you will understand what they indicate. The betterthe ranking the more accurate it is. Fot he most part anything over 100,000 can be ignored.

Try marketleap.com link popularity... it has proven invaluable to many including myself.

    Good luck..
