Did we know this?

I can't remember... so many 'discoveries' over the years.

Anyway, they've had it for 11 years. Pretty awesome name.

I wonder for what price (or IF) Steve Jobs would sell to a big airline like AA / AmericanAirlines... or maybe to whatever governing bodies handle the nation's biggest airports. All kinds of potential suitors for that name.

Expires in 3 months. Maybe they will forget to renew. Heh. :p

they need a whole lot of airport the whole of it to deliver a whole lot of apples
looks like a partnership with markmonitor.com

cross-selling
people need to eat their apples while waiting on the airport or working on their apples.

Don't get me wrong when I say this; it's a nice name, but I think that that domain is pretty useless.

An airline wouldnt want it because they aren't an Airport.
An airport wouldnt want it because it's not specific at all to their airport.
It's singular... there are hundreds of airportS so it wouldnt even serve as a domain for finding airports.

It would be a good name for a Wireless Electronic item though. If they called it the 'Airport'. IE. An apple Wireless Router.

@Luke- Apple wireless (the network card sand the software that runs them) is called Airport and has been for ages (probably 11 years!)

Did it come across in a 'you should know this' fashion?!
Because that's not what was intended...
:gl:
(I thought 'Airport' was relatively new to Apple, <4yrs, and was surprised they'd had the name for 11)

I wonder why the name just redirects to Apple.com though. (Even archive.org shows the Apple homepage for results as far back as last Jan).
I expected a 'wireless enabled' product showcase landing page or something similar.

I'll take this 'useless' domain! :D

Even if they have a wireless system called airport, this must also be a case of a good amount of mistargetted traffic. Honestly, when people type in airport.com, do you think they are looking for Apple's wireless system, or an actual airport/flight related stuff ? :)

Nice name though, and still a good assett for apple Inc.

Thats a very good point Jiblob, it is one of those ultra generic domains that would probably take a huge amount of work to get the best out of it.

The only way I can think to make money out of it would be using it with subdomains

gatwick.airport.com

jfk.airport.com ...etc etc

Set each page up with info and affiliate bookings for flights and Hotels for each destination ??

= ALOT of work D-:

Interesting why they would want that domain. Maybe just another apple investment.

Indeed. Unless they really have nothing to say.
