I want to know if only one company saw the vast array of capitalism that awaited and got dotsucks on the 185k "low". They will profit after like 20 registrations if so, since no adverting or marketing was required (all publications picked this one up and they got millions more eyeballs for free).

Who needs aids.sucks when they can just buy .aids for $185k?

Now some nTLDs are jumping on the .OOO band wagon.
Not sure if you guys recall but .OOO lead the way with multiple $1.5 million domain premium.
Computers (yes plural)
Porn
Clothes
Wine
Russia
Just to name a few. There are several more that have the same price tag or something akin to the price tag. (you know what I mean... way the hell out there that they cant be take seriously).

Anyway, just my 2 cents.... I can find no use for the extension "sucks" and I doubt that there would be any real resell value to domainers (let alone business) afterwards.

Cheers

It's amazing that this nonsense still persists.

These TLDs were dead in the water even before they started. No reasonable person will buy a premium keyword in a .sucks or .ooo when you can very well buy one for cheap in a TLD that has more relevance.

.sucks is a novelty, or a place for an angry soccer mom to start a blog to complain about Wegmans.

From a business perspective, at $185k for a TLD the registry will generate a profit. Investors, the naive, and the curious will register names. From a resale standpoint... they are not worth it.

I have a different opinion on OOO based on something I read.
It seems that the company is utilizing the extension with another one of their online entities. There is a combination there that could work well if its implemented correctly.
The problem is that they are pretty much ONLY pushing the extension towards the nation of India. Yes, they have a lot of people, but the nation who owns the most domains is the US. India is only beginning to grow, so there is room for potential but so far it has been lack luster to say the least.

They are also supposed to have an IPO to further launch their current explorations. Unfortunately information is difficult to get hold of because of the difference in countries. Its just not forth coming here so I do not know where they stand in that.

Anyway, my thoughts where that they actually have a "PLAN" for the extension that extends more then just "here is an extensions, buy it". They actually plan on utilizing it in their business model.

We will have to see if any success comes out of it.
With that said, I did purchase a singular OOO domain. I hope for success for that domain, but my bet is hedged for failure.

Cheers

But my question is.. what does ooo mean? To anybody? :D

Good question.
They actually had a reason for picking 3 of the same letters.
So from what I gather, they are an authorized distributor of cell phones in India, and also from my readings, something to the tune of 85% of all internet traffic in India comes in the form of hand held devices (in other words sans a physical keyboard).
They state that they chose 3 of the same characters... from what I understand "O" because most people are right handed and that is where your thumb naturally falls on the digital keyboard.
Supposedly its all for convenience for the hand held user which is ramped in India.

That is the best that I can find from my reading.
It makes sense if you look at it from their point of view and not the point of view of a domainer.
Keep in mind that they are not in the domaining business and their real use is to utilize the extensions in their already existing platform.

They do NOT admit to it... but it is MY guess, that is the reason behind the HUGE and OUTLANDISH premiums of many of the good domain names. They are keeping them to be utilized later for their own means. If someone ponies up $1.5 million, I am sure they will take it but lets be real... its not going to happen.
**This is just my guess based on things that I have read and may be 100% incorrect... so take it with a grain of salt**.

Cheers
