Why “SI” is linguistically superior to “AI” – a short reflection.

Most people assume “AI” (Artificial Intelligence) is the natural global abbreviation. But from a pure linguistics perspective, “SI” for Superintelligence actually works better across languages.

🔹 “AI” contains English diphthongs [eɪ aɪ], which are pronounced differently in German, French, Mandarin, etc.
🔹 “SI” is simply [si] – almost identical in most major languages.
🔹 The prefix “super-” (Latin) is a true internationalism; “artificial” is not.

We don’t need to replace “AI” overnight. But when discussing superintelligence, using “SI” might make global communication clearer and less Anglo-centric.

Thoughts?

The first sentence on the Wikipedia page for "superintelligence" defines it, and if the comically vacuous vibe-coded AI slop on a looks-like-a-typo hand-reg fake site is your pitch for .SI, things are even worse than I thought.

.ai I value at around 50x the price of .si for same keyword right now. But that gap can close significantly. Parity not inevitable and would need many events and a lot of time.

IMO.. .si will grab attention just like .xyz & .now but not up to the mark of .ai.

“SI” for Superintelligence

My philosophy in life is "don't make me think", so if you have to explain what "SI" stands for then the battle is already lost... :xf.smile:

AI has a long way to go, maybe many decades. Before that, no future for SI.

Superintelligence is an upgraded version of AI and is almost here, no later than 2030

Like, I would have no problem holding something like Ultra.si or that level word.

However, I am seeing people with hundreds or thousands of mid terms.

Valuable terms would really need to be strong six or seven figure .com really.

Brad

How about Ultraman.SI

Personally I'm betting the house on Inframan.SI, Inframan.AI, Inframan.NET, Inframan.MOBI, ect.

Si visually looks so ugly. I don't care what word you put in front of it. It looks like bargain basement trash.

I suppose there is no accounting for taste. So some will score.

Mind you, your comments are recorded under the thread "Why “SI” is linguistically superior to “AI” – a short reflection.

Perhaps best if you spin up another thread discussing the opposite.

Personally, I don't think the debate is AI vs. SI... Superintelligence is simply a future, improved version of the AI we have today. Superintelligence refers to intelligence superior to that of humans, and if we look at the latest AI models that have come onto the market, it's easy to understand that they are more intelligent than 99.99% of humans today (no offense intended). And what's coming is even better than what we have now, since technology is always advancing and always improving (Antropic says its AI is already improving itself, without human intervention). The future is exciting but also terrifying, and I'm not talking about the distant future. According to the major players in the AI market: OpenAI, Antropic, Google, Microsoft, etc... there will be tremendous changes in technology and in our lives in general within the next 3 to 4 years (2030). As a domainer, it doesn't matter if you prefer .AI or .SI domains, or if you find one prettier than the other. .AI domains have been very well received and in high demand due to their relevance to the industry. .SI domains are associated with Superintelligence, which doesn't mean they'll have the same success as .AI because we're at a point where .AI was a few years ago, before the ChatGPT boom. However, it's also possible that in the future, .SI domains will have more demand and value than .AI. Anything is possible. Domaining is a game; you bet on what might happen in the future... the same thing happened with .COM domains in the beginning when some visionaries registered dictionary words to sell them for millions of dollars years later. Most didn't see the opportunity. The same goes for .AI, .SI, etc... there will always be those with vision and many others who don't. The difference between .AI and .SI domains lies in the price. Registering a .AI domain costs $80 to $100 per year (minimum 2 years), while .SI domains cost between $12 and $15. This price difference allows you to invest in a few keywords and hold onto them for a few years to see what happens. The opportunity is here and now. Of course, you can enter later when the market is more mature, for example, by waiting and, if demand starts to grow, buying .SI domains from other investors to resell them. That's possible and part of domaining, but let me tell you something: it's not the same to buy a domain for $90,000 and resell it for $100,000, even if you make $10,000, as it is to register it manually for $12 and sell it for $100,000. That's not easy, but it's possible. To conclude, I just wanted to tell those who are enthusiastic to invest in .SI domains with sound judgment and common sense, just like with any other TLD or financial investment. There's always risk, so only invest what you can afford to lose. And to those who think .SI domains have no future, please stop wasting your time speaking ill of or against this TLD. It's just one more option in the vast ocean of domain investment. Dedicate your time and money to extensions you trust more and have fun... there's something for everyone without the need for endless, pointless arguments. I personally believe in .SI domains and invest in them. I don't own many, but I have a few that I think can give me a good return since they were registered manually and maintaining them is inexpensive. Good luck to everyone.

Who cares? .xyz is truly the ugliest extension possible to me. Still is.

But sales don't care about my feelings.

Aside from that, .si is infinitely sleeker and prettier than .xyz (to me).

SI probably need wait until all good AI names are taken and people get bored of AI
Before that selling SI is a dream. But AI domains are reality
