Anybody else seen this?

http://www.afternic.com/bazaar.php

I ran into it while doing a review of Afternic for DomainNameReview.com. Its supposed to be a Wholesale Domain Name Auction. This is really interesting to me since I sold NameBazaar.com to the owner of Afternic a month or so ago.

Hopefully, this will be a great new outlet for selling our names. Only time will tell tho since its not even open yet:).

I didn't get any notification until the auction ended. Both on the name I bought and the name I sold.

ugh

so it isnt like ebay and it shows bids or anything eh...

hmmmm....

Nope, all bids are kept hidden from both the sellers and buyers until sold. But, such a great surprise if you are a winner or get one sold.

well, honestly, im not sure i want to wait around that long!

it could take days or weeks or i could even be 1.00 away from a sale and not even know it

surprises are for birthdays! not for business transactions!

Not possible for it to take weeks...days, yes.

Yeah, $1 away. That's what I though on the auction that I won. So I bumped it. I probably wouldn't have got it for my original $1 bid.

Sounds like the concept is working OK. Bumping your own bid just shows that you really want the name and don't want to take a chance on trying to get it for the "bid stop" price.

You are correct. My original bid was at the stop price. I had to ask myself if it was something that I really wanted and how much it was worth to me. Then I bumped because I wanted the name, not because I knew somebody else did. I've paid too much for JUNK on eBay because I got caught up in the fun of bidding wars. Good for the seller, not good for my wallet.

On the other hand... on the domian that I sold, it went for $1 over my stop price. So I suppose the sellers have to be careful.

You (as a seller) never have to accept less than what you think the name is worth. If the lowest you will go on a specific name is $10.00 then that should be your "stop" price. If a buyer bid $9.00 you'll never know, unfortunately. That is the way the game is played.

I was happy with what I got for the name I sold. If fact my stop price was rather high, or so I thought. On the name that I bought, I think I got it at a bargin price. I guess from my own experience so far, the fact that they don't let you see the bidding process is not a serious draw back.

By not seeing the bids, it helps the seller in the long run. I think the seller needs some protection in a reverse auction format or all names would sell for peanuts.

:bingo:

Right you are Ogre. Not only could I not get in a bidding war, but I couldn't just sit back and wait and try to get my bid in at the last minute. I had to decide what it was worth to me and enter a bid at that point or risk loosing out.

I like the concept. I sold some names here by doing the same thing only with NP$.

I was first. They stole my idea!
Just kiddin', of course. :hehe:

At this stage, Afternic is willing to help you contact the buyer. Maybe email is not working; we'll try their phone #. If nothing works, you can leave negative feedback. If a member gets too much negative feedback, we will terminate their membership. (Haven't decided what too much is yet.)
