consider this my good deed of the day! But i've got a GREAT super trick i use with my affiliate programs.

when signing up with a potential affiliate i do this.

1st, the affiliate user name. I never put my name, my nick name, or a variation of my nick name as an affiliate id or username. Instead, i pick a technical codish type of name.

instead of

username: isis,
I use

username: storefrontcgi , cgi, indexhtm, asp, php4, etc etc etc

I do that so that the person clicking through my link doesn't autmatically see that it's an affiliate link

for example, instead of
www.xxxxxxx.com/isis or
www.xxxxxxx.com/affid=isis

they see
www.xxxxxx.com/asp or
wwww.xxxxxx.com/affid=cgi

I was under the impression that by using all kind of tricks you are violating their policy

These are not "tricks" per se.

We only call them that because it makes it more interesting, I guess.

What they really are are simply legitimate affiliate marketer measures to protect links and commissions. These measures are as legit as affiliate marketing itself.

OK, you've tempted me to share my trick, since you guys are so excited about this one  Post this code into a page and check your roll over. How does it look? Click it and it will send the user to the encoded page, not the page they see in the status bar. :)

HTML:
<a href="http://affiliates.allposters.com/link/redirect.asp?AID=48002714&PSTID=1&LTID=19&LID=112&ParentAID=48002714" onmouseover="window.status='http://www.allposters.com';return true;" onmouseout="window.status=' ';return true;">http://www.allposters.com</a>

Thanks. I have been looking for that code for a little while now. thank you very much!

Sent you NP$

I was just saying the fruaders that send fake paypal "you need to submit your login details to my site" emails use this same trick....

Car owners and arsonists both use gasoline. Does that mean that they are both criminals?

Kapeesh?

Since everybody is sharing I'll add one to the mix. If you think it's worth it to spend an extra $6-$12, register a related domain name and link to that. Set up domain redirection with your affiliate link. This way you don't have any tricks for the surfer to catch before they click, meaning you can use this anywhere (forums, newgroups, email sig, whatever)
