Adword prices...ka-ching!

I budget a whopping $1.50 per day (lol) on Google adwords...(each time someone clicks on one of my Google ads that shows up on a site, it costs me a certain amount per click...until my budget for the day is reached).

Over the last year or so, I've notice huge increases in the cost of adwords (because people are essentially bidding higher to make sure their ads arer shown).

I used to have a list of about 80 keywords for placing ads. When I first chose those words, the minimum per click I had to pay was about ten cents.

After that, each time I checked my list it seemed many were no longer 'active' because my minimum amount was too low. Month by month the prices went up, first to 20 cents per click....then to 30 cents per click and so on.

Today, after not checking for a few months, I found that only two out of 80 domains were still active....at 40 cents per click. Almost all of the others all had minimums of $1.00 and up (alaska-pfd - $5 and garage park $5 ). Needless to say, I can't afford that.

If my bid for a keyword is one dollar, and someone clicks on it, I pay $1.00...but if that ad happens to have been clicked while on one of my own parking pages through Sedo (or namedrive, or....) using Google Adsense, I'd be lucky to get 20 cents (I'm guessing).

Just goes to show how fierce the competition for ads is...and how much money is being made by Google and the companies promoting the adsense clicks.

Wow. 'garage park $5'!?

Hmm, how do you go about checking prices of the keywords? (I'm only a publisher and have never used adwords)

I got a Wii site and quite a number of clicks pay the minimum $0.01. Blah.

Lzy, you need an Adwords account and then you can use their tools to find out the PPC bids.

You can try some other CPC programs for advertising purposes like AdBrite, Bidvertiser etc but I have heard that the quality of visitors isn't really good as compared to Adwords.

Hmm, thanks Josh!

I will go have a look and maybe buy a couple of ads :D

Hi Verbster,

You are absolutely right...it is going crazy...I am using Adwords for one of my domain since 2 months and i've seen an increasing bidding value(if you can name it like this).

I face the same prob and i sort of figured it out, my competitors(the big players what i try to compete with) are bidding on a daily basis more than i set...meaning by that i have to check my appearance in google every day, every hour, every minute :(..It happened quite a lot that i just disappeared from the google listing after checking my best keywords......I still try to find a better way than increasing all the time my max bid....it is sort of annoying :(

HELP!!! :)

Cheers,

Frank

That's the effect of the Quality Score algorithm that Google implemented last year. That's why arbitration is hardly worth it anymore, especially for parked pages.
