Ill keep it simple and short.

I have a forum with around 3k users at the moment and gaining 100-150 members a day. Im wondering what some recomendations would be for a server to host a vbulletin forum with around 1k-2k online users at a time.

im not looking for the names of providers. im looking for server specs that are capable of running that large of a vB forum efficiently. Im looking at a layeredtech 2x2.4ghz xeon with 4gb ram at the moment but im curious to know if this would work.

Dual Xeons will more than fine I believe. However, I have seen servers having to load balance loads with around 500+ members online at one time but this was most likely to the database itself. Example WHT ran clusters now they are running load balancing I believe.

Remember Forums are very resource intensive and you might need to up your RAM more. What type of forum do you have that is so popular : D-:?

They will even help you set up the server. ;)
Actually they are a un-managed company, which means you just got lucky. :)

ServerMatrix is not accepting sales from new customers currently, only from exsisting customers.

A good server should for you should be
P4 3.4- 3.8ghz
1-2gb ram
Hardrive really doesnt matter.
Fendora Core 3
100-400gb bandwidth.

If you are expanding this quickly definetly go with the Dual Xeons. Think long term.
