AdSense showing correct ad's on search engine?

I recently started a directory/search engine however I am somewhat confused on how to make google ad's to show advertisement that relates to the search. I did notice that it does show correct ads for searches made that are also listed in the directory, just not for "random" search results.
Any suggestions?
