AdSense pub-ID intercepted - Is it possible?

Suppose you are the owner of a vBulletin powered forum site. You have enabled the revenue sharing feature for members that have their own AdSense account. So, members are invited to register with their profile their AdSense ID (pub-*********************) and a channel if they like to. The deal is 50/50. That means for 50% of the impressions the AdSense ID of the forum owner is displayed. For the next 50% the AdSense IDs of the participating members posting in a given thread are rotated. Simple idea that motivates members to be more active participants.

My question: Is it possible to implement a script that in case there is a click on AdSense ads, intercepts and substitutes the actual pub-ID that is displayed with forum owner's pub-ID to be reported to Google? You get the idea?

Reason: I am interested to have your considerations because I am a member of such a forum. My AdSense report show thousands of impressions of that dedicated channel and not a single click! It is out of the ordinary in my view. What is your take?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

We have revenue sharing here on NamePros similar to what you described. I don't believe there's any such way to do what you described. And it would be simple for you to check the source code of the pages too and ensure the Adsense code is being properly served.

Click through rates on forum ads are much lower that you would see on a typical site. 3000 impressions with 0 clicks is low, but not unfathomable.

Thanks for your comments RJ. How much is the CTR here on NamePros? I know that it may vary from month to month.

I wish I could say, but Adsense terms prohibit discussing actual numbers for CTR and EPC. I will say the CTR on NamePros' forum is the lowest of all sites I've run Adsense on.

Any other forum owners care to comment?

This is not the case with AdBrite ads showing on top of this forum! Why is that big difference between AdSense and AdBrite CTR's?

The Adsense ads have a low CTR. I can't say why for sure, but I feel it has something to do with the nature of our site. A good percentage of our regular members are Adsense publishers who are accustomed to avoiding clicking on Adsense ads. Tech savvy users in general click on less ads than a more general audience site. NamePros is setup so you are never displayed your own ad code, but I still think its avoided by many users. Do you ever click on adsense at a forum?

Btw, I did review some Adsense stats for revenue sharing channel at NamePros. 3000 impressions is too small a sample to say definitively, but that many impressions without a click seems very odd based on history. I'm routinely seeing clickthroughs with less impressions. In your OP, are you talking about NamePros revenue sharing or a different site? If it's another site, is the ad placement the same or similar as the Adsense on NamePros?

Hmm...

I click on Google Ads here but they have to be very, Very, VERY interesting!

Yes, I agree, most webmasters do avoid clicking google ads on most sites unless they've been asked to click someones ads (and YES, It does happen!)

No, maybe because I already know what these advertisers are offering. :)

I am talking about another domain and web hosting related forum and ad placement is similar. You have said, however, it is the same situation with NP - "3000 impressions with 0 clicks is low, but not unfathomable." Since you say it is also perfectly normal for NamePros, I have just remembered you are also using AdBrite feed. We have happened to advertise some of our sites on NP through AdBrite. And average AdBrite CTR was about 2 clicks per 1000 impressions. So, why is that big difference between AdSense and AdBrite CTR's? On average CTR's: AdBrite is 2 clicks per 1000 impressions and AdSense is 0 clicks per 2000 impressions?

Your adsense click rate can be related to where the adsense ads are located. According to Google, they suggest that adsense ads place above the fold are very effective, where other places do not get very much attention. On their site some place, I don't remeber where, there was a screen map showing the most effective places to have the adsense ads.

As an example, on digitalpoint.com I receive money every single day. This may be due to the fact the adsense ad is placed at the top of the screen. I have never earned any income on NamePros.com. This may be related to the adsense ad being placed at the bottom of the screen. On my political forum I place ads at the top and bottom of the screen so it will catch users from both ends.

I have a pretty low CTR from these forums with the revenue sharing, but sadly the CTR on this board is higher than what I get on some of my sites...
