I added a background sound (.wav file) in Dreamweaver, and also some rollover sounds using Behaviors, and everything worked beautifully at home, but when I took my website files to a friend's house and downloaded them on her computer, instead of playing the background sound and rollover sounds, the browser kept trying to open the sounds in Quicktime as soon as the mouse rolled over the image, and the page kept changing to a plain browser with a Quicktime player in it. How can I ensure that anyone viewing my site who has Quicktime as their default player, does not experience this? Is there some kind of coding I can include that will either play the sound in Windows media as it was intended, or just show a missing link box as it does in Netscape. I really want my rollover sounds to work!

use flash, using ie's ways to embed wav's etc are so buggy it isnt even funny, plus you can bet that most users HATE it when there is sound playing that they cannot control, believe me, use flash, there is an excellent free xml/flash mp3 player here: www.flashcomponents.net search "mp3 player" the name of the player is "F5 mp3 Player"

Thanks for your replies. I really wanted to use sound because it's a site for my band that I'm working on. I don't know how to use Flash yet as I am just learning Dreamweaver. I tried to use Flash but just found it too complicated.
I checked out the Flash player at flashcomponents.com and it's cool, but how do you use it? When I download it my computer doesn't recognize the .mxp file extension. How does it work? I'd love to be able to use a player like that on my site so users could ehar our songs.

What I wanted was that whenever the mouse rolled over each band members picture, that a little sound would make the noise of their instrument...just a few seconds clip. It worked fine at home but on my friends computer it tried to download the sound in a seperate browser window instead of playing it as a rollover effects. I know I should use Flash, and I will work on it, it would just take me too long to figure it out at this stage. I'll play with it. While I'm on the subject, can anyone tell me why there is a little gap under the main picture of the first page where the background doesn't seem to meet? I've tried everything to close it, enlarging the pic, stretching the background etc, but nothing works. All the other pages are based on the same design but that's the only one that seems to have this problem. It's driving me nuts! I coded the background color so you wouldn't notice it so much but it's annoying me!

Hey,
I suggest that you don't put a wav file on your site. It's frustrating when a visitors comes to your site, the music starts and he can't shut it off. The best way to put sounds on a web site is through flash, giving the visitors the chance to turn it off.
