I can use my AVC-1410 to schedule and record television programs as well. I'm not sure that the AVC-1400 has this function offhand but the unit looks the same as mine.

My AVC-1410 has connections for RCA composite, S-Video, and coax so you can input video from virtually anywhere and record it... I'm fairly sure the AVC-1400 has the same features. It's a small unit, about the size of a credit card.
